RE: Exchange ActiveSync error

Hi Steven,

Thanks for using the SBS newsgroup.

From your description, I understand the issue to be: you received error
message when the portable device tried to activesync to the Exchange
server. If I am off base, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Before we go any further, please kindly help me collect some information to
isolate the issue:

I. How the portable device synchronize with exchange server? by USB or
wireless? Does the issue is prompted on the computer or the portable
device? Can you give me the exact error message or help me capture a screen
shot of the error message? you can mail me the image to my working mailbox:
v-yanniw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx

II. Can the portable device access the OMA site (Outlook mobile Access)
without problem? Please double check the following settings:

1. Open IIS Manager console on the problematic server.
2. Right click the Exchange virtual directory and click Properties.
3. Click Directory Security tab.
4. Click Edit in the "Authentication and access control" section.
5. Please make sure only the option "Basic Authentication" is selected.
6. Repeat the above steps on Microsoft-Server-Activesync virtual directory
and make sure only "Basic Authentication" is selected.
7. Restart the IIS Admin service to test the issue.

III. Please try to use another smart phone/PDA to test, what is the result?
Please take a look at the following article to see if it helps.

Exchange ActiveSync and Outlook Mobile Access errors occur when SSL or
forms-based authentication is required for Exchange Server 2003
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=817379

IV. What is your SBS 2003 version? Have you applied SBS 2003 SP1? Have you
installed ISA on the server box? What is the version? What is your portable
device's brand?

V. Have you find any related error event logged in Event Viewer? If yes,
please paste the exact error messages in the newsgroup.

While setting up a portable device to sync with Exchange, I receive the
following error:

"Microsoft Exchange Server did not accept your logon credentials. Click
retry to check your credentials again, or click continue to configure your
Pocket PC to synchronize with this server anyway"

This occurs after I configure the "Exchange Server Settings" in active
sync,
and click OK.

This is fresh SBS 2003 server.

I can successfully logon to OWA using the same user name and PW.

I am new to Exchange and Active Sync, so please target your responses
accordingly.

Thank you.
