Hi Tony,
Thanks for using the SBS newsgroup.
From your description, I understand the issue to be: Magic MailMonitor(MMM3) can not work on the SBS server box. If I am off base, please
don't hesitate to let me know.
Have you enabled the Pop3 service on the SBS server box? By default, the
service is disabled. You can refer to the following steps to turn on the
Exchange POP3 service, then please test the issue again to see if it is
resolved.
To turn on the Microsoft Exchange POP3 service on the SBS 2003 server box,
follow these steps:
1. Click Start, point to Programs, click Administrative Tools, and then
click Services.
2. Double-click Microsoft Exchange POP3.
3. In the Startup-type box, click Automatic, click Apply, and then click
Start.
4. Close the Services console.
5. Click Start, and then click Server Management.
6. In the left pane, expand To Do List.
7. In the right pane, click Connect to the Internet.
8. After the Configure E-mail and Internet Connection Wizard starts, follow
the instructions until you reach the Firewall page.
9. Click Enable Firewall, and then click Next.
10. Click Add.
11. Type Microsoft Exchange POP3 in the Service name box, click TCP in the
Protocol box, type 110 in the Port box, and then click OK.
12. Click Next, and then complete the Configure E-mail and Internet
Connection Wizard.
More information:
The default POP3 and IMAP4 virtual servers are stopped and you cannot
connect to the POP3 and the IMAP4 services in Windows Small Business Server
2003
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=837368
And also the default POP3 Virtual server should listening on all Unassigned
IPs
1. Open ESM, locate the node (Exchange System Manager -> Administrative
Groups -> first administrative group -> Servers -> Protocols -> Pop3 ->
default POP3 Virtual server).
2. Right click the default POP3 Virtual server -> Properties page ->
General -> IP address -> all Unassigned (TCP 110, SSL 995).
Then please test the issue again, how about the result?
If the issue persists, let us perform the following test:
I. Please test if the POP3 service is enabled using command "telnet
server_public_IP 110" (no quotation marks) from a remote client
workstation.
If we get the following message on the command prompt, POP3 should work
fine:
+OK Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 POP3 server version 6.5.7226.0 (<IP
Address> or <Public FQDN>) ready.
Please capture a screen shot of the test output and upload to the newsgroup
or mail to my working mailbox: v-yanniw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx
II. Use Outlook Express to verify connectivity to the POP3 server (the SBS
2003 server box):
To configure Outlook Express, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, point to All Programs, and then click Outlook Express.
2. If this is the first time that you have started Outlook Express and if
the Outlook Express Internet Connection Wizard starts, go to step 5.
3. On the Tools menu, click Accounts, and then click the Mail tab.
4. Click Add, and then click Mail.
5. In the Display name box, type your name in the format that you want your
e-mail recipients to see, and then click Next.
6. In the E-mail address box, type your e-mail alias, and then click Next.
7. Leave the POP3 selection in the My incoming mail server is a list, and
then type the remote POP3 server's fully qualified domain name in the
Incoming mail (POP3, IMAP, or HTTP) server box. For example, type
pop.fabrikam.com.
8. In the Outgoing mail (SMTP) server box, type the fully qualified domain
name of your Windows Small Business Server-based computer. For example,
type mail.contoso.local.
9. Click Next, type your POP3 e-mail account name in the Account name box,
type the password that you use to access the remote POP3 server in the
Password box, click Next, and then click Finish.
10. Click the account that you just created, and then click Properties.
11. Click the Advanced tab, click to select the Leave a copy of messages on
server check box, and then click OK.
12. Click Close to quit the Internet Accounts dialog box.
13. On the Tools menu, point to Send and Receive, and then click the POP3
e-mail account that you just created.
What is the result? Can you retrieve emails properly? If not, please help
me capture a screen shot of the error message.
If emails can be retrieved properly by OE, the issue should lies in the
Magic Mail Monitor, I would like to suggest that you contact the
application vendor for support. They are more familiar with their own
application than us. Thanks for your understanding.
Have a nice day!
Sincerely,
Jenny Wu
