RE: HELP ME PLEASE! Http://companyweb

Hi Lloyd,

Thank you for posting in SBS newsgroup.

I am sorry for the delayed response due to weekend. Please understand that
the newsgroups are staffed weekdays by Microsoft Support professionals to
answer your systems and applications questions. Your understanding is
greatly appreciated!

From the description, I understand the issue to be: LAN client computers
can not access http://companyweb and get http://servername, however they
can get companyweb through typing http://companyweb/default.aspx. If I have
misunderstood your concerns, please do not hesitate to let me know.

Currently please check the general steps to see how thing goes:

I. Check the configuration on SBS and client computer:

On SBS server:

External NIC:
IP: assigned by your ISP or your hardware router
Gateway: your ISP or your Hardware router IP
DNS: SBS INTERNAL NIC IP as the only entry

Internal NIC:
IP: Fixed IP
Gateway: None
DNS: SBS INTERNAL NIC IP as the only entry

In the DNS console (dnsmgmt.msc), right click your ServerName and click
properties. In the Forwarders tab, your ISP DNS server IP should be
inputted there.

On workstation inside your SBS local subnet

IP: Assigned by DHCP on SBS
Gateway: SBS internal NIC IP
DNS: SBS INTERNAL NIC IP as the only entry

II. Please check in DNS and see if there is a CNAME alias for Companyweb in
the Forward lookup Zone.

1. On the SBS server, bring up the DNS console by running dnsmgmt.msc.
2. Expand ''Server name'' '' ''Forward Lookup Zones'' '' ''your domain
name'', is there a Alias (CNAME) record for companyweb in the right pane?
If so, ensure the ''FQDN for target host'' option is setting to the FQDN
name of your SBS server, such as sbs2k3.domain.local.

III. In IIS, make sure that Companyweb is listening on the 444 port on
every network interface on your SBS server and the permission. To do so,
please follow the steps below:

1. Open IIS.
2. Right-click Companyweb and then click Properties.
3. Click Advanced in the Web Site tab.
4. Click to select the entry that includes SSL port 444, and then click
Edit.
5. Make sure that we choose " (All Unassigned)" in the IP address list.
6. Click OK to close the open windows.
7. Click the "Directory Security" tab.
8. In the "Authentication and access control" section, click the Edit
button.
9. Make sure only the following boxes are checked:

Integrated Windows authentication

10. Click OK.
11. In the "IP address and domain restrictions" section, click the Edit
button.
12. Make sure "Granted access" is selected and there are no items in the
list box.
13. Click OK.
14. Click the "Documents" tab and make sure "Enable default content page"
is select and the following items are listed in order:

Default.htm
Default.asp
index.htm
Default.aspx

If any items are missing, please add them and make them the correct order.

IV. Also please try to add http://servername to the IE Intranet zone of the
problematic client computer and try again. You can do so as following:

1. Start Internet Explorer (if it is not already running).
2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
3. Click the Security tab.
4. Under Select a Web content zone to specify its security settings, click
Trusted sites, and then click Sites.
5. In the Add this Web site to the zone box, type http://servername, and
then click Add.
6. Click Close, and then click OK.
7. Try to see if the problem still persists.

If the issue still occurs, would you please help me collect the following
information?

1. Can you access http://companyweb on SBS? Does the situation occur on all
LAN clients?
2. Can you access other SBS 2003 built-in web site such as OWA, RWW?
3. Open a command prompt on internal client, type ''ping companyweb''
(without the quotation marks) and press Enter. What's the result?
4. Do you have ISA installed on SBS?

If you have any questions or concerns related to this issue, please do let
me know.

I appreciate your time and look forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,

Crina Li (MSFT)
