Hello Russ & Jenny,

thank you for both of your replies. In response to Russ yes that is the
document I am using. And in response to Jenny doh, I missed the bit that
states the requirement of SBS SP1, I have not installed that yet. I guess
thats what comes of working to long hours I should have a holiday.

Anyway thank you for pointing out my error, I will install SBS SP1 and try
again.

Many thanks,

Colin.

Hi Colina,

Thanks for using the SBS newsgroup. Also thanks for Russ's input.

From your description, I understand the issue to be: you failed to
install
the MSSQL$WSUS instance on the SBS server box. If I am off base, please
don't hesitate to let me know.

Before you begin to prepare the server to install WSUS, have you applied
the SBS 2003 SP1 to the server box first? Based on my research, some
issues
occur due to not apply the SBS 2003 SP1. You can visit the following
link
to get detail information about SBS 2003 SP1.

Installing Windows SBS 2003 with SP1, "Getting Started" at the Microsoft
Web site (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=51143

I would like to suggest that you strictly follow the following article
to
install the WSUS.

Then please let me know if the issue disappears.

More information:

If the issue persists, please help me collect the following information:

1. What is the version of the SBS 2003? Is it SBS 2003 SP1 OEM?
2. Please mail me all files under the folder: C:\Program Files\Update
Services\LogFiles\

I appreciate your time. I am happy to be of assistance to you and look
forward to your reply.

Have a nice day!

Hello,

I am trying to install WSUS on windows small business server 2003. I
have
downloaded the most recent version and am following the instructions
outlined
in the microsoft document.

When I come to enter the following command:

Sqlrun03.msi InstanceName=WSUS BlankSAPwd=1 Reboot=ReallySuppress
DisableNetworkProtocols=1 DisableAgentStartup=1 DisableThrottle=1

It seems to run ok, and I get no error messages in the event logs.
However
when I come to check the services I see no MSSQL$WSUS service there. I
have
tried runnning the command again as it says in the documentation, but
still
no success.

Please can anyone help me with this as I have tried searching the web
to
no
avail.

Many thanks.
