Upgrade from NT4

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Hi,

I'm looking to upgrade our NT4 domain to a sbs 2003 domain. There is no
exchange currently in place.

I have tried doing a swing-style migration. But now realise that it's not
possible to do a straight server swap as the current NT4 server has an
underscore in it's name, and as I understand it exchange2003 will not load
on a server using a non-standard character in it's name.

Therefore I need to come up with a new strategy, and would welcome ideas.
The 2 I am considering are:-
1. Install sbs into new domain and migrate each PC over 1 by 1. This would
be a bit of a pain as I will need to recreate new profiles on each PC.

2. Install a "temp" NT as a BDC, then promote to PDC, then upgrade to w2k3.
Install the SBS server into the domain seize all roles and then install
exchange etc.

I would be gratefull to hear anyone elses opinions on this.

-TIA,

H
