RE: Restore Server from window backup problem

Hello Martin,

Thank you for posting to the SBS Newsgroup.

I understand that you restore SBS Server from Backup to anther machine.
Please understand that we strongly suggest that customer restores to the
same brand and model of the original computer.

If you are restoring to a different computer than that which was originally
running Windows Small Business Server 2003, make sure that the following
items are the same on the original and the new computer:

a. SCSI controller. You can restore to a computer that has an IDE
controller if the original computer had SCSI.

b. Motherboard chip set.

c. Number of processors.

d. Hard disk size. The new computer's hard disk should contain matching
volumes the same size or larger than those on the original computer.

f. Drive letter of the boot partition.

For more detail information, please see our Backup and Restore Backup

I'm trying to restore the entire backup to a new server.

I did the installation of SBS 2003 Premium Disk 1 and proceed to restore
the
entire backup to its original location; I made sure in Toos > Options >
Restore (tab) has "Always replace the file on my computer" is selected and
did the restore.

Upon reboot, I see the following message:
Windows could not start because of an error in the software. Please report
this problem as:
load needed DLLs for kernel
Please contact your support person to report this problem

After doing some research with google. It seems that ntoskrnl.exe and
hal.dll is either missing or corrupted. I proceed to repair those 2 files
using recovery console.
After repairing, I exit the recovery console and reboot.

Upon reboot, I see the windows 2003 screen then after 10 sec the screen
turned black again. Then after 20 more sec i heard the reboot sound.

Upon reboot, I see the following message:
Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupted:
System32\Drivers\Ntfs.sys

You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup
using the original Setup CD-ROM.
Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair.

I proceed to repair Ntfs.sys using recovery console.
After repairing, I exit the recovery console and reboot and I keep seeing
the error message of Ntfs.sys is missing or corrupt

I need some help here.

I'm basically migrating my server to a new server with different raid card.
