Re: Printer setup

Create the ports and add the printers on the SBS (post back if you have
questions about how to do this). Then in the future, the printers should be
added when you add computers using the SBS' Add Computer Wizard.
Specifically, on the Client Applications page of the wizard, click Advanced.
This option is probably already selected, but if not, click the box. This
will add any printer published in AD (on the Sharing tab of the printer's
properties).

Alternatively, you can accomplish the same thing for existing computers by
running the wizard to "Assign applications to client computers" and
de-selecting everything but that option (it will make you leave service
packs but that won't matter if they're already installed).

When a printer is installed this way on a server and you go to add it
manually to the desktop PC, don't add the port and configure it as a local
printer. In the Add a printer wizard on the desktop, just select Network
Printer, and click Find a Printer in the Directory -> Next -> Find Now.

Hi,

I would like to know what's the best way to set up printers in a SBS
domain environment. Currently, we have 3 printers, one is an all-in-one.
All networked and have static IP addresses.

What I have been doing on the clients, I run the "add printer" wizard and
create a TCP/IP port and install the driver. This seems to work.
Alternatively, I know I can just install the printers to the SBS server,
and share them. Then from the client, I just point to the server's
printers.

Okay, a better question to ask is, is it possible to set up these printers
and have them installed whenever I set up a new client PC (i.e. as soon as
I join a new computer to the SBS domain).

Thanks for your help.

Simon
