For $29.95 a year dyndns.com will provide backup mail server. If your server loses internet for less than 4 hours your mail won't bounce anyway but any business should have a backup mail server. When Hurricane Ivan hit in 2004 my server was down for 10 days and when I came back up I didn't lose a single bit of Junk mail :>)
Hi,
Do you have any good guides/tips for setting up a backup mail solution för SBS 2003?
I guess there are plenty of different ways you could do this. One thing I thought of myself is to have 2 MX records for your domain. Both with different preferences. The record with the lowest value could be set to send mail directly to the SBS server. The record with the higher value could be set to send mail to a catchallbox at you ISP.
With this setup my thought was to send mail straight to your SBS server. But if the server or internet connection would go down, your mail would still be collected at your ISP until you come back online.
But how would one configue SBS 2003 to handle this? Maby there are better ways, but I am just playing around with my own server now and trying to figure it out. Any help/thoughts would be appreciated.
Btw, I hope it's OK to post these kind of newbie questions here.
Best regards
