Re: How do I create a Distribution List in the Global Address Book

AFAIK the X400 address is supposed to be there but would not cause the DL
not to appear in the GAL. (The following are all under the Recipients
category in ESM). You could try going into the properties of the default
recipient policy and making sure X400 is checked (my guess is that it's
not). Then create a new list and see if that one has an X400 address and
shows up in the GAL. FWIW, I created a test DL with the wizard, and it does
have an X400 address.

Also, go into the properties of the Default GAL and click the Preview
button. See if the address appears there. If an address appears in the GAL
preview there, then you rebuild the offline address book and manually
download it to Outlook, it should appear. Seeing what happens here should
let you isolate the problem to address creation (GAL), or offline address
book creation.

You did verify that the "hide from address lists" option is not checked for
the DL, right?

That didn't work either.
FYI-
I have another DL that was created before I was hired and I noticed that,
under its e-mail addresses tab, it has two addresses. One SMTP address
and
one X400 address. My new DL does not have an X400 Address. What is an
X400
Address and do I need it for this to work?

Thank you,

Go into Outlook and hit F9 to sync your mailbox (which should include the
offline address book). If the DL is still not there, go to the server
and
in Exchange System Manger, expand Recipients. Click Offline Address
Lists.
In the right pane, r-click what is hopefully the only entry and click
Rebuild. It might warn you that it'll take a long time, but it won't.
Go
back to Outlook, F9 again, and hopefully it'll be there.

If not, please start by checking the server's application log for errors
around the time you rebuilt the address book. Also check the properties
of
the DL to make sure you didn't somehow check "hide from address lists."

Yours is a pretty common complaint. This whole offline thing is probably
great for enterprises, but it's more annoying than beneficial in the SBS
world IMO. It's supposed to be improved in Exchange SP2 - I hope so.

Okay... I sent an email to the DL and it was received by all members.
The
only thing is that it is still not showing up in the GAL. Why not and
how
do
I get it to show up?

THANK YOU

Try sending a message to the DL by typing in the address instead of
selecting it from the GAL. Hopefully that works.

What should happen is that Exchange will update the Offline Address
Book
overnight. Then when you log into Outlook tomorrow morning, it should
download the updated address book and you'll see the new entry.
Failing
that, hit F9 or select "Download Address Book" from the menu in
Outlook
(Tools -> Send/Receive -> Download address book).

Dave,

Ok. I re-ran the wizard, allowing e-mails from the outside world,
and
it
completed successfully. However, I still cannot view it in my
outlook,
under
the global address list. What's going on?

When you ran the wizard, did you set it to not allow e-mails from
outside
your network? If so, you could say yes to keeping the group. Then
go
into
the group's properties and manually delete the valid Internet
address.
For
example, you'll have listname@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx as the primary address
and
listname@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx as an additional address. What you'd do
is
to
make the .local address primary, then delete the .com, and clear
the
check
box to automatically update based on recipient policy.

The alternative would be to create the group manually in AD Users
and
Computers. Go to MyBusiness and r-click Distribution Groups.
New ->
Group.
Fill in the blanks, choose Universal and Distribution. Then open
the
properties of the group, add members, and configure the rest of the
stuff
as
you wish.

I ran the wizard, but it tells me "The wizard could not
successfully
configure this group. The following could not be completed: -
The
external
e-mail address could not be removed.
Do you want to keep this group?"

What do I do?
