OK,
here it is:
My company uses "COMPANY" as NetBIOS domain name. The DNS domain name is
"company.local" and the SMTP domain name is "company.com".
1. Create a user (let's call him John Doe) via the wizard and change the
proposed logon name from JohnD to "John", change the email alias from
"JohnD" to "john.doe"
2. Create a mail maintenance account (let's call this account "mail-admin").
Give "mail-admin" full control on the mailbox store
at this stage, if you use http://mail.company.com/exchange/John and the
mail-admin credentials, you can't access the John Doe's inbox via OWA (but
it works from Outlook)
Lauch Active Directory Users and Computers and take a look at John Doe's
properties. In the email addresses you should find two smtp adresses:
john.doe@xxxxxxxxxxx and john.doe@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
In order to access John Doe's inbox via OWA using the "mail-admin"
credentials you need to add another smtp address to John Doe:
john@xxxxxxxxxxx
You can now access its Inbox via OWA using the mail-admin credentials.

Xavier, I would greatly appreciate if you could explain in detail "The
accounts that could not be accessed via OWA all had
"logonname@xxxxxxxxxxx"
missing in the list of email addresses associated to their account". So

Hello Brandy
*** ISSUE SOLVED *** :-))
One of the tests you made me perform (with a newly created account) made
wonder whether there could be something wrong with the way the user getsof
created. I therefore took a deeper look at all user properties and rights
all my users and found the solution:accessed
My accounts use email adresses like "firstname.lastname@xxxxxxxxxxx" while
they use "firstname" as logon name. The accounts that could not be
via OWA all had "logonname@xxxxxxxxxxx" missing in the list of emailin
addresses associated to their account. Adding this email adress solves the
issue, and I can now access their inbox via my dedicated email maintenance
account. During the creation of the user via the wizard, if you overwrite
the choices proposed by the wizard, the address "logonname@xxxxxxxxxxx" is
not created and you can't access the associated mailbox via OWA.
Sorry for the missing files in my previous post, your reply was truncated
my NG viewer and I did not saw the end of your post. Do you still wantthese
files or do you want me to perform other tests ? Just let me know.
I would like to thank you once again for your time and patience.
Xavier
