Hi Brandy,

Thanks for your response. The SQLAgent$SBSMonitoring service was set to
"Automatic". I changed it to manual and started the service no problem.

As for the OWSTIMER.EXE CPU usage, I couldn't find the OWSTIMER.LOG file.
Not sure if it's because I killed the exe through task manager?

I'll reboot the computer hopefully in the next day or two, if I can find
the
file, I'll forward it to you.

Thank you so much for your help.

Dear Customer,

Thank you for posting to the SBS Newsgroup.

I understand that you are informed that the SQLAgent$SBSMonitoring
service
does not start, and OWSTIMER.EXE occupying large CPU. If I have
misunderstood your issues, please let me know.

Please take your time to read through my reply and then perform the
steps.

==========

Regarding the SQLAgent$SBSMonitoring Service issue, please see my
suggestions:

By default, this service is disabled. Please see:

Default Services That Are Installed in Windows Small Business Server 2003
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=829623

So please check whether the SQLAgent$SBSMonitoring Service is started on
your Server. To do so:

1. On your SBS Server, go to Start -> Run "services.msc" (without
quotation
marks).
2. Double click SQLAgent$SBSMonitoring Service.
3. On the General tab,

Path to executable: "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL
Server\MSSQL&SBSMONITORING\Binn\sqlagent.EXE" -i SBSMONITORING

Select Startup Type as Automatical or Manual.

4. On the Log on tab: Log on as Local System account.
5. Restart the service and see how it goes.
6. If you cannot restart the service, what is the error message? Please
type the error message word by word to the Newsgroup.

Also, please help me to gather following information for further
research.

a. On the SBS Server, run "eventvwr" (without quotation marks), check
whether there are any errors. If yes, double click it, click the Copy
button and paste the full content to the Newsgroup.

b. When did the issue occur? Did you have this issue before? If no, did
you
make any changes on the SBS 2K3 Server recently?

c. Please forward the Alert email to me.

==========

Regarding the OWSTIMER.EXE:

Please Email me the C:\Documents and Settings\[user name]\Local
Settings\Temp\OWSTIMER.LOG file. If you logs on by administrator account
it
is the C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local
Settings\Temp\OWSTIMER.LOG file.

==========

I also suggest that you perform a clean boot your SBS Server to see
whether
there is any third party interference:

a. Click Start->Run, type "MSCONFIG" (without the quotation marks) and
click OK.

b. In the System Configuration Utility (MSConfig) window, click the
"Startup" tab.

c. Click to clear all the check marks from the list box under "Startup".

d. Click the Services tab, check the "Hide all Microsoft Services" box
and
then click the "Disable All" button to disable the non-Microsoft
services.

e. Click OK to close the MSConfig window. Click Yes when you are asked to
restart your computer in order to enable the changes.

f. After restarting, please check whether this issue still exists.

Please take your time to perform the steps. If you have any updates,
please
feel free to let me know. I am looking forward to hearing from you!

Best regards,

Brandy Nee

Hi,

I had to restart the SBS server, I'm now getting this in the daily
performance report:

Auto-started Services Not Running
SQLAgent$SBSMonitoring

Also, I have an instance of OWSTIMER.EXE taking up very high CPU usage.
I
killed it through the server console and the CPU drops back to normal. I
haven't seen any side-effect so far? Although I was getting an error
about
the it in the daily report.

In addition, is it normal to see the server sitting in Preparing for
network
connection and Applying settings for a while after a reboot? The server
is
an Intel 2.8GHz Dual-Core with 2GB RAM, 250GB SATA HD no raid.

Any help is much appreciated.
