Hello Jason,
Thank you for posting to the SBS Newsgroup.
Please understand that changing the SBS server name without a
reinstallation is not supported. It most probably causes very critical
issues.
Change the Servername will break following components (at least):
IIS
WSS
SQL
I understand that you got WSS re-installed already, and your basic issue is
to connect to the old config db which still has the old servername in it.
You need to install WSS and let it create a NEW config db with the right
servername information in it, and then extend whatever sites you need
connecting restored content databases.
For your reference:

896593 After you migrate a user from a different Active Directory domain,
the user can no longer access Windows SharePoint Services

You can have a try to rename the Servername back and see how it goes.
However, I cannot guarantee that the Computer SID will keep the same as the
original one.
Due to complicated of the issue, we suggest that you contact Microsoft
Product Support Services via telephone for a better solution and a
dedicated Support Professional can assist with your request. Please be
advised that contacting phone support will be a charged call.
To obtain the phone numbers for specific technology request please take a
look at the web site listed below.

Hey everyone!
I am pretty well versed in SPS/WSS but this SBS Companyweb seems to be
a whole other beast! I am working with a client who has a NTBACKUP of
the server including the old companyweb DB's. The server name has
sinced changed and now I am required to restore the company web DB's
STS_CONFIG, STS_SERVER and restore the site and all content. I have
restored the DB's in the MSSQL/Data folder and have extended and
reextended the virtual server. But when ever I go to the site I am
getting the error "The Website referenced here is not in the
configuration database." I am not sure how this is possible being that
this is the same config DB that the content DB was using prior to
rebuilding.
Odd thing is I can create a top-level website using that virtual server
with the URL being http://companyweb/sites/"top-level site". This
works fine being that I can navigate to the site without a problem. I
am just not sure how to go about restoring the DB because of MSDE so
there is no SQL DB restore without using the OSQL util (which is kinda
ugly). Thought that someone might be able to point me in the right
direction as what I might be doing wrong.
Thanks in advance for any help that I receive.
Cheers!
