Hi Mike,
Thank you for posting in SBS newsgroup.
From the description, I understand the issue to be: LAN client computerscan not access http://companyweb. If I have misunderstood your concerns,
please do not hesitate to let me know.
First please check in DNS and see if there is a CNAME alias for Companyweb
in the Forward lookup Zone.
1. On the SBS server, bring up the DNS console by running dnsmgmt.msc.
2. Expand ''Server name'' '' ''Forward Lookup Zones'' '' ''your domain
name'', is there a Alias (CNAME) record for companyweb in the right pane?
If so, ensure the ''FQDN for target host'' option is setting to the FQDN
name of your SBS server, such as sbs2k3.domain.local.
Also please try to add http://servername to the IE Intranet zone of the
problematic client computer and try again. You can do so as following:
1. Start Internet Explorer (if it is not already running).
2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
3. Click the Security tab.
4. Under Select a Web content zone to specify its security settings, click
Trusted sites, and then click Sites.
5. In the Add this Web site to the zone box, type http://servername, and
then click Add.
6. Click Close, and then click OK.
7. Try to see if the problem still persists.
Thirdly, please check the web proxy as following on client computers:
1. Start Internet Explorer (if it is not already running).
2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
3. Click Connections tab and then click LAN Settings.
4. Make sure you have selected Bypass proxy server for your LAN.
Also I provide general configuration on SBS and client computer:
On SBS server:
External NIC:
IP: assigned by your ISP or your hardware router
Gateway: your ISP or your Hardware router IP
DNS: SBS INTERNAL NIC IP as the only entry
Internal NIC:
IP: Fixed IP
Gateway: None
DNS: SBS INTERNAL NIC IP as the only entry
In the DNS console (dnsmgmt.msc), right click your ServerName and click
properties. In the Forwarders tab, your ISP DNS server IP should be
inputted there.
On workstation inside your SBS local subnet
IP: Assigned by DHCP on SBS
Gateway: SBS internal NIC IP
DNS: SBS INTERNAL NIC IP as the only entry
I appreciate your time and look forward to hearing from you.
Best regards,
Crina Li (MSFT)

| I have a new SBS2003 SP1 premium installation. ISA is setup with two NICs
| and I haven't made any changes to ISA. The client machines (only 2 so far)
| use DHCP and are able to reach the //server website and when I added the
| firewall client can connect to any Internet sites. The client machines
point
| to the SBS internal IP for DNS and gateway.
|
| I can open the http://companyweb site on the SBS. When I try to open
| http://companyweb on a client IE gives a "cannot find server or DNS
error".
| I can browse to //server and open RWW , connect computer or information
and
| answers.
|
| As a test I added an entry of <server IP> companyweb to the hosts file and
| IE was then able to open the sharepoint site. So it seems like a DNS issue
| but I don't know where to look.
|
| Any suggestions appreciated.
