This is a SBS 2003 Standard that has been running for months. TrendMicro CSM
2.0. First hint of trouble is when I could not RDP into the server through
the LAN (via third party VPN from another LAN, not the SBS VPN). The RDP
went as far as showing the black screen, then hung. RWW seemed to work, but
actually hung when trying to go somewhere. Outlook clients reported
connection lost. This is a headless server, at remote site; having lost
control of it, had to ask someone to walk to the machine and do a hard
reboot. 50 minutes after the reboot, it still runs like molasses. Nothing
unusual in Event logs (except what one would expect to find after an
unorderly shutdown). No single process hogging the top in Task Manager when
sorting by CPU usage. Just pegging.
The only two things that are obviously seriously amiss is a log entry that
states that there was an unexpected shutdown 9 hours earlier, and no status
email this morning. Just the one entry for Event 6008 reporting the
unexpected shutdown. Nothing special in the log before, and especially
nothing *after*, none of the usual startup entries and entries that follow
an unorderly shutdown in the event log and applications log. Also, I did not
receive the email with server status report this morning.
Any ideas?
