Hi Julius,
Thanks for post back.
Have you deleted all files under the %temp% directory and then try to
reinstall the Windows fax service to test?
I understand that you had followed the steps to reinstall the Windows and
SBS Fax components, now you can access FAX snap-in but fail to run
''Configure Fax Wizard''. With a successful installation, the following 3
files are installed and put in the folder C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Windows Small Business Server\fax:
" Faxcfg.exe
" Faxcfgc.dll
" Faxcfg.dat
I. If they are here, please also check the following registry keys:
HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\Fax\Routing Extensions\Microsoft
Routing Extension\Routing Methods
Under the Routing Methods node, can you find the registry Key "Folder"?
What is the GUID value? Please note the value should be:
92041A90-9AF2-11D0-ABF7-00C04FD91A4E
If there is not the registry key, I suggest you double check the Faxcfg.dat
file (%SBSProgramDir%\fax\faxcfg.dat) is present and it is not corrupted.
Please double check the %SBSProgramDir%\fax folder and the file
Faxcfg.dat's permissions are set properly.
Also please ensure the content as follows:
Contents of the file include:
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<root>
<extension routingID="{AEC1B37C-9AF2-11D0-ABF7-00C04FD91A4E}"
objectID="{4D585531-BDD5-4dd4-96D2-5E628D1F03D8}" />
<extension routingID="{92041A90-9AF2-11D0-ABF7-00C04FD91A4E}"
objectID="{4D585532-BDD5-4dd4-96D2-5E628D1F03D8}" />
<extension routingID="{AD18492B-746F-4301-9B5D-7B82AFD944E5}"
objectID="{4D585533-BDD5-4dd4-96D2-5E628D1F03D8}" />
<extension routingID="{6BBF7BFE-9AF2-11D0-ABF7-00C04FD91A4E}"
objectID="{4D585534-BDD5-4dd4-96D2-5E628D1F03D8}" />
</root>
If not, I suggest you copy Faxcfg.dat from CD3\sbs\fax\ and then reboot the
server to see if the issue be fixed.
II. If they''re not there, it means that the installation didn''t go
through successfully and we need to check what''s going on in the
installation process. Can you please help to gather the following
information to us (v-yanniw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx) for analysis?
1) All the log files under C:\Program Files\Microsoft Integration\Windows
Small Business Server 2003\Logs.
2) The ''faxsetup.log'' file under ''C:\WINDOWS\''.
III. What is more, please take a look at the following KB article to see if
it helps.
842207 You cannot use the Fax service on a Windows Server 2003-based domain

Hope above information helps!
Have a nice day!

Jen,
I finally got the fax service to install. It looks like all the routing
options are ther including the routing to a Sharepoint document library
which was my very first problem. However, now I can run the Fax
Configuration wizard. I click on the Configure Fax Services button in the
Server Mangement console under faxes and this is the message that appears:
"Windows cannot find 'faxcfg.exe'."
Any ideas?

Hi Julius,
Thanks for your information.
In the faxsetup.log file, we find the following error message:
[02/28/06 14:26:14] [0x0fac] [ ] {
[02/28/06 14:26:14] [0x0fac] [ERR] Call to function

(d:\srvrtm\printscan\faxsrv\setup\ocm\fxocmapi.cpp 515)
[02/28/06 14:26:14] [0x0fac] [ ] } (3001)
[02/28/06 14:26:14] [0x0fac] [WRN] Cannot delete XP
Transport Provider 3001
[02/28/06 14:26:14] [0x0fac] [ ] } (3001)
The error code 3001 means ERROR_PRINTER_DRIVER_IN_USE
After researched the issue, let us perform the following steps to see if
helps:the
1. Delete the file from the %temp% directory and reboot the server. Then
please try to reinstall the fax service again, what is the result?
2. If the issue persists, let us use the Registry Monitor tool to monitor
the registry access information when you try to install the fax service.
This tool can be downloaded from the following link:
RegMon: http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/source/regmon.shtml
2. Familiarize yourself with the Capture and Clear buttons below the menu
bar. You can alternatively use Ctrl+E and Ctrl+X.
3. Stop the capture and clear the current events. This will allow us to
capture minimal activity. There will be some activity that will be
extraneous, but that's okay. We would rather have to much data then not
capture the correct events.
4. Make sure your application is in a state where you are ready to
reproduce the problem (delete related registry keys as I required and try
to reinstall the Windows fax service).
NOTE: In order to see minimal traffic from the utilities close all other
applications that are not involved in the test.
5. Click the capture button or use Ctrl+E to start capturing data.
6. Reproduce the problem(begin to send fax).
7. Stop the capture by clicking the 'Capture' button or use Ctrl+E.
8. Save each capture to a file, zip them up and send them to me for review.
I appreciate your time.
Have a nice day!
Sincerely,
Jenny Wu

When I try to access the Shared Fax MMC Snap-In from the Server
Management Console I get the following error:
Snap-in failed to initialize.
Name: <uknown>
CLSID:{1CA43905-B116-405A-9871-1D79621A745F}
When I try to go to the Phone and Modem Options in the control panel I
get this error:
"Phone And Modem control panel can not be opened. You may have a
problem starting telphony service."
When I try access the properties of the service named "Fax" I get this
error:
"Configuration Manager: The specified device instance handle does not
correspond to a present device."
When I go to the Windows Components window in Add/Remove programs, the
Fax Services is not checked. When I check it to install the Fax
Services, it does not give me any errors. But it doesn't change
anything or fix the problem. Upon going back to the Windows Components
window, Fax services is still unchecked.
So when I try to add Shared Fax Serices using the Change/Remove option
for Windows Small Business Server 2003 in Add/Remove programs, it is
listed as not being installed. When I try to install it I get this
error:
"An error occurred while installing Fax Services. Rerun Setup, and
retry installing Fax Services."
I do not get any errors related to Fax in the event logs.
Any ideas??
