Hello Guys,

I'm having the same problem too.
My organisation has an dutch Sbs-Standard-Sever and every two or thee weeks
i have to reboot my server before my co-workers can get to work.

My server reports the first event (can not connect to the monitoring
database) on 0:16:00 maybe that can help. I've also disabled al the
monitoring tools to find out if that could be the solution but nope no result.

Can you both keep me updated about this nasty problem.

With regards,

Pieter Hendriks

OK,

we had APC's Powerchute running and thought that it might the problem but we
removed it and that did not cure.

I'll keep you posted on any progress.

I hope not, I was feeling really lonely when I thought it was just me :-)
On my problem box ras also shuts down, so remote access to see what's
happening is also dead.

My most recent shot was to completely remove the ups configuration and
redo it all. As you say you have to wait weeks between changes to see
what happens. It would be so helpful if the even log said what or who
issued the shutdown for these services

Thanks for adding to the fire Ray. It can't just be us...can it?

I was thinking about turning the SBS monitoring off and changing the
firewall to log to text files instead of SQL to see if that would
pinpoint where the problem lay. The trouble is there are no signs that we
recognise which would tell us that this is about to happen so each test
takes a few weeks till the server goes again!!

Cheers

I just want to add me too !
I have been trying to troubleshoot the exact same issue at a client site
and so far haven't been able to pin it down. Once the firewall shuts
down it's all over and the box has to be powered off because it won't
respond at the logon screen.

Hi all.

the above scenario happens to us about once every three weeks. No one
can log on, the server acts as though it is under high load - ie very
slow administrator logon, screen updates etc. When re-started,
everything is back to normal but the traces in the event logs are that
SBS Monitoring has failed to connect with its database, firewall
service is unable to connect to its database, firewall service and
remote access service are successfully sent stop commands and those two
services enter the stopped state.
It's SBS2003 Premium and we have a fairly big box for the job - Dual
Zeon processors, 4Gb ram etc - our average CPU useage is about 1%.

Any ideas on how to troubleshoot this?

Thanks in advance

Ed
