Thanks Crina,
I had checked all those items already!
One thing I didnt mention is that I do not operate a domain, there is a
domain, but the clients dont join it.
Ipconfig reveals:
DNS-Suffix: "mydomain.local"
DHCP assigned IP = correct
Subnet = correct
Gateway = router
etc
So I just cant understand whats wrong. Im not experiencing any other network
problems.

Hi Jonathan,
Thank you for posting in SBS newsgroup.
From the description, I understand the issue to be: You can not RDP to
client computer from SBS and you can RDP to SBS from client computer after
switching SBS to one NIC. If I have misunderstood your concerns, please do
not hesitate to let me know.
To narrow down the problem, would you please help me confirm the
following?
1. Right click My Computer and select Properties and then check if Allow
users to connect remotely to this computer on Remote tab on the XP
computer.
2. Check if the user accounts are added to the Remote Users group of the
client computer.
3. Check if you have configured the following group policy on prolbmeatic
client computers:
1) Run gpedit.msc on client computer.
2) Expand Computer Configuration | Windows Settings | Security Settings |
Local Policies | User Rights Assignment.
3) Double click Deny access to this computer from the network and check if
the user account is added to it.
4) Double click Access this computer from the network and then add the
user
account.
4. Please try to disable the windows firewall on the problematic computer
and then try again.
5. Check if any third party anti-virus or firewall is installed on the
problematic computer, please disable them and try again.
After finishing the above steps, please try to RDP to the client computer
from SBS.
If the problem still occurs, please help me collect the following
information:
1. Can you RDP to other computers directly through click Start and
Accessories and Communications and Remote Desktop Connection from the
problematic client computer?
2. What is the detailed error message when you RDP to the problematic
client computer? Can you attach a screen shot to newsgroup?
3. Does the situation occur on every client on LAN of SBS?
4. Can you confirm there is no other user RDP to the client?
5. Does the problematic computers have been added the SBS domain?
6. Attach ipconfig/all result on SBS and client computer.
Also for one Nic, you need to configure on SBS server and client computer
as following:
IP: Fixed IP address
Gateway: your Hardware router IP
DNS: SBS NIC IP as the only entry
In the DNS console (dnsmgmt.msc), right click your ServerName and click
properties. In the Forwarders tab, your ISP DNS server IP should be
inputted there.
On the client workstation, please make sure the configuration:
IP: Assigned by DHCP on SBS or your hardware router
Gateway: hardware router
DNS: SBS INTERNAL NIC IP as the only entry

| Having read a post on switching to a single nic, which by the way seems
to
| be a far better in terms of overall performance and simplicity, I can no
| longer Remote Desktop between Clients internally.
|
| Ive tried using direct IP instead of Names but to no avail. Obviously
all
| the correct ports are open and SBS DHCP DNS seem to be working
perfectly.
|
| I can remote desktop to the SBS but not back again.
|
| On a side issue, I have a number or Routers in the network, these have
DHCP
| disabled, however they all have a "DHCP relay" function. Should I set
the
| SBS IP as the "DHCP Relay"?
