Hi Grant,
Thank you for posting in SBS newsgroup.
From the description, I understand the issue to be: you receive errormessage when you access companyweb after install SBS 2003 SP1. If I have
misunderstood your concerns, please do not hesitate to let me know.
AS I know, you may have the issue once installing .Net Framework 2.0. You
may have to change the .Net Framework back to 1.1.4322 on the site or
virtual directories. Please do as following:
1. Open the IIS management snap-in.
2. Go to the properties of companyweb.
3. Go to the ASP.NET tab.
4. On the ASP.NET version select the drop-down and change from the
2.0.50727 to 1.1.4322.
5. Apply and close out the properties.
6. Browse companyweb.
If you want to run companyweb on ASP.NET 2.0.50727 you will need to upgrade
run the following sharepoint command:
stsadm.exe -o upgrade -forceupgrade -url http://companyweb
See 894903 for more information.
894903 You receive a "The Windows SharePoint Services virtual server has not
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=894903
If running this command does not fix the issue, then you will need to
confirm that your WSS is actually at SP2.
1. Start SharePoint Central Administration.
2. Under "Virtual Server Configuration" on the Windows SharePoint Services
Central Administration page, click "Configure virtual server settings".
3. Under "Version" on the Virtual Server List page, note the version number
that is listed for the virtual server, and then use one of the following
methods, depending on your situation:
The version numbers are listed as follows:
6.0.2.5530 is the version number of the virtual server in the
original release version of Windows SharePoint Services.
6.0.2.6361 is the version number of the virtual server in Windows
SharePoint Services Service Pack 1 (SP1).
6.0.2.6411 is the version number of the virtual server in Windows
SharePoint Services that has the security update installed that is
described in the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
887981 MS05-006: Vulnerability in Windows SharePoint Services and
SharePoint Team Services could allow cross-site scripting and spoofing
attacks
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;887981
6.0.2.6568 is the version number of the virtual server in Windows
SharePoint Services Service Pack 2 (SP2).
If the version number is less than 6.0.2.6568, the virtual server is not
at SP2. Please go to Microsoft site and download the WSS SP2. After
installing it you will be able to access companyweb.
I appreciate your time and look forward to hearing from you.
Best regards,
Crina Li (MSFT)

| Hi
|
| After applying SBS2003 SP1 (Premium) everything is great, except the
| companyweb website.
|
| On each web part on every page, the following message is displayed:
| "Web Part Error: This page has encountered a critical error. Contact your
| system administrator if this problem persists"
|
| I have checked the event log, and found the following message:
| Event Type: Error
| Event Source: Windows SharePoint Services 2.0
| Event Category: (1)
| Event ID: 1000
| Description:
| The safe mode service of Windows SharePoint Services has failed to
| initialize because of an unknown error.
|
|
| I have tried doing a repair on Sharepoint Services, but there is no
change.
|
| Does anyone know what could be causing this...
|
| Cheers
| Grant
