Re: Migrating to Windows Server 2003 R2 standard from SBS 2003 SP1

Interesting. I get this response to the duplicate post I did in the Windows
Server Migration area ...

Hi,

You were told to run Adprep first because the standard AD schema were
modified. You need to run Adprep to extend the schema.

However, Microsoft don't suggest you use your ways to turn your SBS domain
into Normal domain because if you transfer FSMO to new DC, there will be
potential issue and Microsoft will not support this scenario. For more
information about this, please post at SBS newsgroup for assistance.

Thanks.

Is this true? Is there an article that goes into this in depth, or at least
a guideline?

Ahh, I wasn't running the "correct" Adprep.exe.

The one on CD2 did the trick. Thanks.

We have a new server with Windows Server 2003 Standard R2 installed. I am
trying to do a dcpromo.exe on i to join it to the existing domain being
run
by a SBS 2003 server, transfer all roles to the W3KR2 machine, then
takethe
SBS server down and rebuild it. I have done this in the past with success,
but when I try it with the W3KR2 machine I am told to run "adprep.exe" as
the
existing forest is not compatable with this machine. Of course running
adprep.exe on the SBS server had no affect.

What do I have to do? Is there another way to migrate all the AD infor to
the W3kR2 machine from the SBS server?

I have looked for awhile in these forums, but all I seem to turn up is 200
server migration issues.

Any help would be great, thanks.
