SO, _FOR NOW_ set the 'external' interface of SBS to get IP by DHCP, but
manually set the DNS server to the 'internal' IP (this is all in the
external NIC properties). If the router allows DHCP reservations based on
the MAC address of the NIC, set one. (I have this funny feeling the one I
was dealing with did not allow this, hence it was thrown in the bin and an
alternate device found)

did all that and no go... no internet connection from the server. the only
way for the internet to work on the server is to have the dhcp services
running on the router. And I dod have it for both internal internet access
and it also supplies internet to a rental/ conference room. This is hard
because I also have a static ip from the ISP to put somewhere, and have it
on
the router.

ipconfig /release
All adapters bound to dhcp adressess can not be released
ipconfig/ renew
dchp server can not be found

so that didn't work. I have tried to use the change server ip wizard, but
either i'm missing a step or it don't work.

I would have left DHCP on the router on, for the possibility of
'external'
users getting a connection easily.
I probably would have run the 'Change Server IP address' wiz by now.

twice.

The following nic is the one connected to your router, right? Make
sure
of that by unplugging the cat cable an noting which nic becomes
disconnected.

You won't need the DHCP server entry, as you are doing manual
configuration.

Change the DNS server IP to the IP of the other nic - 192.168.1.103

Now, run the Connect to the Internet Wizard. If UPnP is offered,
decline it. If you know your ISPs DNS server IP(s), you can enter

in the wizard - if you don't know them then leave them blank. If the
CEICW reports any errors, then post them here. If not, then go to a
workstation and from a command prompt - enter ipconfig /release
<enter>
and then ipconfig /renew <enter>, and then ipconfig /all - and post
the
results here. May as well do an ipconfig at the server as well.

Services and Applications | DHCP | Scope <ipaddress>, what is the ip
address scope shown in <ipaddress>?

Move down and click on Scope Options - what is shown there?
