Re: SBS2003 Premium and Std in 2 separate servers

Hi Time traveller,

The server unfortunately is a single CPU.

Storage on SATA drive is about 50GB out of potentially 160GB on RAID 1

Apart from standard SBS2003 applications, we have symantec antivirus and
BulletFTP server (does SBS2003 have its own FTP server inbuilt?).

No other applications and services are installed apart from the above.

Not sure whether this constitute as a heavily used server in line with the
general public.

Our CPU usage is generally quite low, Stats i collected below:

Which server do you have? is it Dual CPU capable?

How much storage do you currently have on the SATA Drives? can you add
more? or maybe use a NAS unit for storage?

Ram is fine, if Dual CPU then that will be fine

What other applications/services do you use this server for other than the
normal SBS services?

Only 20 users so Current CPU and RAM doesnt seem a major problem.

Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor 630 - 3Ghz
1.5 GB ram
SATA harddisk raid

We may require to upgrade to a more powerful server if we want to use CRM
on the same server? any suggestions?

The only 'linking' between the servers you'll be able to do is to match
usernames and passwords on each server - but users will still be
prompted when accessing resources on the SBS server which they were not
authenticated by. SBS servers do not support the concept of multiple
domain controllers. To simplify your installation (and administrative
overhead) use a non SBS-operating system on the second server. Then,
setup this server as a 'member server' rather than a domain controller
and join into your existing domain. Member servers can be part of a Win
SBS domain - as long as their not a Domain Controller. Remember: SBS
doesn't support the concept of 'domain trusts' or more than once Domain
Controller per AD forest.

We currently have a SBS2003 std server with 20 CALS.

We are planning to purchase a new server with SBS2003 PREMIUM edition
so as to setup Microsoft CRM 3.0

Would it affect performances, create issues if we have 2 servers LINKED
up which one is premium, the other is standard version. Would the
Standard version be able to enjoy the security application of the ISA
and Microsoft SQL as well?
