Hi Leonid,
Thank you for so so so much for your quick response. I got couple of
questions for you specifically if you don't mind.
1. Would you be able to justify your reasons for not using RAID 5 for this
server I am going to implement on our network. I am open to your feedback as
well as others. Originally when I was discussing this redundancy methodology
with my manager, I had propose using mirroring as a redundancy methodology.
He has indicated it is a traditional standard that had trickled down from the
father's company to adopt RAID 5 for server deployment. I have a chance to
convince my boss if your reasons are very good and since I am still in the
testing phase.
2. Second issue, I did not get ANY key code from the package sent to me
from Dell. Is Dell suppose to ship the key code to me or MS is? Please let
me know and I will start doing some phone call. All I got is the 5 CDs even
though I have indicated that I want to purchase an additional of 15 CALs base
on the quote Dell sent to me.
3. What are the other 2 cds for? I meant the 4th and 5th from my list? I
only used the 1st CD to install the SBS server, so I assume the 2nd and 3rd
are probably extra components of SBS I will need later, correct?
4. Yes I did have to download the RAID driver in order to install the SBS
server but after that it was smooth sailing for the OS installation. Then
again I would have to reinstall the OS since I made the mistake of choosing
per-server rather than per-seat for the licensing part.
Thanks,
Helen

Hello there,
I have also purchased from Dell 15 additional CAL beside the 5 CAL that
came
with SBS server. I am not sure in what form does the additional licences
come in as or maybe they are encoded in the CDs that were ship to me from
Dell.
When I was going through Dell hardware configuration and after configuring
the RAID 5, I was asked to choose which OS to install. SBS 2003 was not
an
OPTION to install on PowerEdge 2850 server and so the Dell technician had
to
walk me thru to downloading a RAID driver. After installing the drivers
for
the RAID controller from the system configuration interface, it allows me
to
continue with the path to install SBS OS. But before I was able to
install
the OS, I was asked to input information such as the following:
1. The company name
2. Server name, DNS, WINS (with fields to enter in the IP address)
3. DHCP or STATIC IP (with fields to enter IPs)
4. Username (beside "administrator" or guest and the account has to have
domain admin right)
5. Account Password
6. Licence (PER-SEAT or PER SERVER)
Which option do I select for the licensing part? I want the end users to
be
able to log in more than 2 computers for example and so which kind of
licence
would I need. We have bought 15 additional CALs from Dell along with the
SBS
software and so there are more than enough CALs for our usage.
Hi Helen,
The correct option is per seat, but actually it is per user, which leads me
to believe that you may be filling in wrong forms.
However, you will actually abandon using the OpenManage CD and use CD1 from
your CD set instead. You will need your RAID driver on the floppy.
Hopefully, next time you'll consider an option other than Dell as well.
Your extra CALs are in the form of keycodes, most likely (3) of them. Check
for license certificates in paper form. Those should be "User" CALs and not
"Device" CALs.
Incidently, I don't recommend a RAID5 configuration for this server.
