========================
Good morning Jenny.
Thank you for your reply on the Microsoft newsgroup regarding our
Intranet.with SharePoint.
I have attached the files that you asked for.
I am not in the UK at the moment (where the server is), I am in the
Netherlands for Carnaval so I am working on this from remote.
The error message is:
"Alert on COURLANDSBS at 24/02/2006 07:48:20
MSSQL$SharePoint service is Stopped.
This service is required as the backend for your SharePoint based
inIf this service stops, users on your network will not be able to access
your SharePoint based intranet site.
For more information about this event, see the event logs on the server
computer. You can restart this service by using the View Services task
thethe Server Management Monitoring and Reporting taskpad.
You can disable this alert by using the Change Alert Notifications task."
Trying to restart the service does not work and I have seen some other
people with the same problem. The thing that I don't understand is that
onsharepoint update that downloaded from the Microsoft update site failed
windowsupdateinstall yet it appears to be installed enough to cause the problem.
Anyhow, I am glad that you have offered to assist.
So the above is the answer to your question 1.
Question 2:
Please give me the window update setup log file KB909544 under the
folder: C:\WINDOWS
I cannot find a log file for KB909544 but I have sent you the
itlog and the log for kb911927 which looks like it may have been the one
previous to trying 909544. Does this help?
I have an imsins.log which look like it is for a similar time/date.
Question 3
Event log files have been sent from the server. The email address that
ishas been sent from will be ***.
If as you mentioned, this will require the reinstallation of SharePoint,
thethere a step by step guide to doing this as it is within SBS2003. Also,
theseserver has a number of areas set up on SharePoint, do we have to back
ofup before we reinstall SharePoint?
Thank you again for your assistance - Terry Dansey

Terry,

because I had had the same problem. I did not even look who her port
was addressed to! Never the less, perhaps my info is useful?
Jenny: When I reinstalled the intranet portion of SBS as per KB829114,
then KB909544 update applied correctly. The first time I attempted to
install KB909544, when it failed, it was installing amongst a couple
other updates in one batch. If I ever do it again, I will ensure at
least one clean reboot before attempting to install it.
My biggest concern was not that I had lost our Companyweb site (we use
it more for playing with than anything useful, fortunately) but what
would we would do if one of our customer's sites had the same problem
since we were stuggling to get and response out of Microsoft,
supposedly because of high work load.
