Re: SBS Backup fails

Hello Andrija,

Thank you for posting back!

If the tape device supports hardware compression, we can select the "Use
hardware compression, if available" option when using NTBACKUP. However, if
the tape device does not support compression, I suggest that backup the
data to hard disk first, use some software to compress it and then backup
the compressed file to a tape.

So I suggest that you contact your tape drive vendor for more professional
support on how to enable the compression on your Sony tape drive.

Hope it helps! If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel
free to let me know. I am glad to be of further assistance!

Best regards,

Brandy Nee

Hello Brandy and thanks for replying once again,

I know that the compression is enabled by default in the ntbackup, and
this is exactly what is confusing me - the compression is enabled, but
de facto is not being used. This is obvious because the backup fails if
the amount of backed up data goes over the basic (non compressed)
capacity of the tape, and this is also visible through the device
properties of the tape drive.
My question is how can I enable the compression on the tape drive as a
piece of hardware (I'm aware that this is maybe the wrong place to ask
though).

Thank you in advance.
Sincerely,
Andrija.
