Re: adding Windows server 2003 r2 as a DC

Were you aware of that the R2 had updated your existing AD schema?

Try disk 2.

I'll bet that will do it.

Thank you Susan,
Yes i am trying to add a r2 server to a non r2 domain.
I used the adprep from disk1 i didn't realise there was one on disk2!
(will
have to have a look later).

And did you use the adprep from disk one or disk two?

Hang loose a bit... you are adding a R2 server to a non R2 domain.

Let me get clarification of what you need to do.

Hey thanks for replying KCDSpike!

Yes i ran the domain prep too and it came up with "domain

has already been updated"

not sure what else to do really :(

After you forest prep it, did you domain prep it?

We have a site running SBS2003 and have recently purchased windows
server
2003 r2 std to install at a remote location for a small number of
users,
The sites are connected by vpn tunnel and can see each other no
problems
(the 2k3 server can join the sbs2003 domain no problem).
Trying to run dcpromo as an additional DC brings up the following
error:

"The operation failed because:

The active directory installation wizard cannot continue because
the forest
is not prepared for installing windows server 2003. Use the adprep
command-line tool to prepare both the forest and the domain. For
more
information about using the Adprep, see Active Directory Help.

The version of the Active Directory schema of the source forest is
not
compatible with the version of Active Directory on this computer."

Now i may be wrong but isn't the adprep tool used for win2k
servers?
I tried running the adprep tool anyway and get the message
"forest-wide
information has already been updated".
Would really appreciate any help!!!
