SATA RAID 1 configuration - non-functional
I have a Maxtor 250GB drive with the physical drive being partitioned with
drive C being 40GB and drive E being 200GB+. Drive D is an external 80GB
backup device; drive E is the DVD/CD drive. Because the RAID-1 wouldn'tSQL
rebuild, I recently ran a test on this drive and found that I have 6 bad
blocks (7989609-7989614, inclusive). I need, so I'm told, to reformat or
replace the drive. Just 2 weeks ago I rebuilt the OS with Exchange and
on it so I'm not inclined to redo this.the
I had a RAID-1 setup but due to the bad blocks on this drive, the RAID
utility (Adaptec, with the controller on the motherboard) only copies TO
bad blocks and not through or around them. Hence, the rebuilt fails dueto
the bad blocks.
What's the best solution here? I'd prefer NOT rebuilding the OS again.
a) backup/restore (using what? - Ghost or ????) to the other drive on the
RAID-1 configuration? The drive is testing 100% but it's without data.
b) are there utilities that will take the SATA drive and copy all BUT the
bad blocks so I can then swap the drives?
c) other ideas?
Thanks,
