Re: RWW users disconnecting

Les,

I have matched the screen resolutions on both the local PC and the remote
PC, still getting disconnected. I have not tried a slower connection
though, I will try next time I am at the remote site. On another note, I
have noticed that when a remote computer is disconnected we also seem to
have a temporary disconnection of the Internet for the local PC's. During
these "outages" I can browse into our Internet router and ping out to other
IP addresses (I'm thinking that there may be an issue with the DNS setup on
the SBS server). These outages only effect our local PC's (we also use the
DSL connection for a VPN with our VoIP between locations and those are not
going down during these "outages") that use the SBS server as a DNS server.
Thanks for your help and suggestions.

It's unlikely to be an issue with /exchange, as you're not using the RDP
(TS) protocol - which seems to be quite sensitive.

Try different screen resolutions on the client end (i.e. try and match the
screen size at both ends). Try a different selection when you log onto
RWW, such as 'modem 28.8' instead of anything faster.

I'm somewhat certain this error has to do with lost packets. For example,
does it exist on the lan where hopefully the connection is more robust?

Tony,

I'm glad to see someone else has been having this same issue. I have
this issue on several of my servers i've setup, it only appears to happen
in
the /remote phase not the /exchange phase. For a while I had a wireless
wan
connection that I thought was causing the problem, but I still have the
problem on our new T1.
Most of my customers have different routers, internet connections,
etc.,etc,
so I don't think it's an internet issue.

Have you been able to replicate this problem internally?

Is your server setup with or without ISA?

Hi Tony,

If the error is because the connection is interrupted, then you have to
solve that problem. You might try the 'black hole router' discovery
process,
which may result in a solution - specifically MTU settings on either or
both
the remote workstation end, and the SBS end. On the SBS end, the setting
is
generally adjusted at the router, so it is set for the entire lan.

This is not an uncommon issue with xDSL connections.

I would imagine it would be. Unfortunately there is no way I can find
out
at this time (I don't have any one at a remote site right now to let me
know). As I mentioned earlier, the recovery time is much shorter now
that
I have applied the hotfix. Before, I had to wait around 5-10 minutes
before the server would respond to my request. Now it is under a
minute.
I can ping the server though, when I get the "page cannot be displayed"
message after "booting" me off the system, so I know that it is not my
internet connection. Any other thoughts or suggestions. Thanks for
your
time.

What happens if you purposely down your internet connection when
using
RWW/connect to computer? Do you get the same message.?

Susan,

Well, after applying this hotfix I am finally testing it remotely
and
guess what. I was just "booted" off of our LAN a few minutes ago.
As I
may have mentioned earlier, when I get the "An internal error has
occurred" message, I click on "O.K." and then get a "Page cannot be
displayed" page in my browser (IE 6) I normally have to wait for
5-10
minutes before I can connect back to the server and log in again.
This
time I was able to reconnect after only 30 seconds or so.

Any other ideas or suggestions? Thanks in advance for your help.

Susan,

Thanks for the reply. There is only one router between our LAN
and
the Internet. I do not know exactly how many may be between my
remote
users and our LAN. In regards to the patch, I read the KB898060
and
it references another patch for the system (KB913446) that
includes a
link to patch MS06-007. Is this the patch you are referring to?
I
have downloaded it but have not yet applied it, I will await
further
instructions. Thank you for your help and patience.

What routers are between you and that and do you have this patch
in
place?

Hi all,

I have been following a thread from CSHerman beginning October
25,
2005. I have been having the exact same issues with RWW and
users
being disconnected while actively typing. Following is my
setup.

SBS 2003 standard with SP1
Sharepoint Services with SP2 update

Workstations are XP Pro with SP2
- IE v6 with the pop-up blocker disabled

The exact problem I am having is this:

A user (from the internet) connects to RWW and logs in. The
user
(or administrator) then chooses to "Connect to Client Desktops".
The user again logs in and begins working as if they were
sitting at
their desk. After a random period of time (my results have shown
anywhere from 10 minutes to nearly an hour) the user is
disconnected
and the following message is displayed.

VBScript: Remote Desktop Disconnected
An internal error has occurred.

Clicking on the link for the "Main Menu" then displays the
standard
"Page cannot be displayed" message. Shutting down the browser
and
then restarting it and attempting to reconnect to the LAN using
RWW
will continue giving the user "The page cannot be displayed"
message
for about 5-10 minutes. After this time the user can now
reconnect
to the RWW and reconnect back to their desktop where they will
find
it in the exact same state that they left it in. Again after a
random amount of time they will again be disconnected and
blocked
completely from the RWW only to start the whole cycle again.

I have tried using Remote Desktop from the Internet and directly
bypassing RWW and have not had any disconnects (this I believe
shows
that it is not my router but rather an issue with RWW and
Windows
SBS 2003 server). I read in CSHerman's thread that he noticed
that
after installing Share Point Services SP2 update he was able to
replicate the problem on other SBS 2003 servers. My question is
has
anyone been able to solve this issue. There seems to be quite a
few
of us having it (or something similar). Thanks in advance for
any
help/insight you can provide.

Tony
