Re: adprep not working on W2k server

Funny I read this now. I called into MS Support today and it took 2.5 hours
on the phone to get this answer. It worked. Also they refunded the $245
charge since it was not documented and how stupid to put an old version of
Adprep on a Server 2003 SR2 Disc1. Why even have it there if the version
you need is on Disc2? I mean seriously the version of Adprep on a 2003
Server SR2 CD isn't the correct one you'd need to prepare a domain for the
OS that is on the disc you would use to install the 2003 Server?

Thanks for the reply Jenny, it's just frustrating having spent so much time
on something that could have been avoided if the correct version of adprep
was on disc 1.

Thanks,
Mike

Hi Mike and Eric,

1. The following commands must be run on the SBS 2000 server:

adprep /forestprep
adprep /domainprep

2. If the Windows Server 2003 server is R2, please perform the following
steps to resolve the problem.

Run adprep /forestprep from the R2 CD. The path is \cmpnents\r2\adprep

File version for R2 adprep: 5.2.3790.2075

You can verify the version of the schema by looking at the objectVersion
attribute within the properties of cn=schema,cn=configuration,dc=<domain>
partition using adsiedit or ldp.

objectVersion values and corresponding OS support level:

13=Window 2000
30=Windows Server 2003 RTM and SP1
31=Windows Server 2003 R2

And then please try to test the issue again, what is the result?

3. If the issue persists, please help me collect the Adprep.log file in
the
%systemroot%\System32\Debug\Adprep\Logs\<Latest_log> folder for analyze.

Hope above information helps! I am happy to be of assistance to you.

Have a nice day!

Sincerely,

Jenny Wu

Yes, I've already read article 278875. The resolution is to run
adprep
on
the 2000 SBS sever again. I've tried this. It says it's already been
run
and will not re-run. It did run successfully the first time. There
are
no
other domain controllers. I'm just trying to add a second domain
controller, this being the 2003 member server.

What next?

Thanks,
Mike

Unfortunately none of these apply to the specific errors I'm getting

I've

posted and the description in my original post and give me some
suggestions?

Hi Mike,

Thanks for using the SBS newsgroup.

From your description, I understand the issue to be: you failed
to
promote
a member server to additional DC. If I am off base, please don't
hesitate
to let me know.
