RE: DCOM Process Launcher hung

Hi,

(Maybe this update is a duplicate, my previous attempt doesn't seem to be
accepted.)

I have tried to start the services manually:
- DCOM: no success (remains "starting")
- Security Centre: same error as during startup
- WIA: is started (automatically, a few minutes after it first failed)
- Fltmgr: is not a service, don't know how to start it manually

Then I ran msconfig, unchecked ALL non-MS services and restarted. This went
much quicker but gave same errors in event viewer.
To be honest, I have one error before all the others (I thought it was
irrelevant, as it relates to Daemon Tools, a DVD Simulator)

After startup, I get the following error on screen:

Daemon Tools
Initialisation error
This program requires at least Windows 2000 with SPTD 1.21 or higher.
Kernel debugger must be deactivated.

By the way, I have Windows XP SP1. But I recently installed SP2 (triggered
by Windows Update). After that, during the mandatory reboot, I powered off my
PC, and all trouble began (I couldn't start windows anymore, even in safe
mode) . Then I Used my original XP SP1 CD to re-install SP1 (Repair didn't
work).

Hi Bruno,

Thanks for your input.

To narrow down the problem, would you please help me confirm if you can
start these services manually on Services console and check if you have set
the Startup type as Automatic for these services.

Also please try a clean boot to see how thing goes:

1. Click Start, click Run, and then in the Open box, type "MSCONFIG"
(without the quotation marks). Click OK.
2. In the System Configuration Utility (MSConfig) window, click to select
the Selective Startup button.
3. Click to clear the check mark from the "Load startup items" below
Selective Startup.
4. Click the Services tab, click to check the "Hide All Microsoft Services"
box, and remove all the check marks from the remained Non-Microsoft
Services. Please note that the Exchange services could be marked as
non-Microsoft. Please do not disable those services.
5. Click OK to close the MSConfig window. Click Yes when you are asked to
restart your computer in order to enable the changes.
6. After restarting, please check whether this issue will reoccur.

Thanks for your time and I look forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,

Crina Li (MSFT)
