I know there are issues with xp boxes that have been upgraded from w2k, so
it's likely the issue exists with w2k boxes prior to upgrade as well.
Try this: (on the w2k workstation)
Fix remote admin/access on an upgraded 2k > xp workstation
Start->Run, "gpedit.msc"
Expand Computer Configuration->Windows Settings->Security
Settings->Local Policies->User Rights Assignment.
On the right side of the snap-in, find "Allow logon
through Terminal Services".
Remove everything that's there, then Add User or Group,
and input the account you want to have access.
No reboots required, the policy will affect all
subsequent Remote Desktop logons. Those accounts not
allowed via this policy to connect will get back an error
stating "The local policy of this system does not permit
you to log on interactively"
and.
1. Click Start, click Run, type "regedit" (without the quotation marks) and
then click OK.
2. Expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, expand System, expand CurrentControlSet,
expand Control and then expand SecurePipeServers.
3. Right-click Winreg and select Permissions.
4. Make sure there is a "LOCAL SERVICE" account with Read permission.

I verified everything suggested and Remote Registry service was Disabled.
Set it to Automatic and it started okay. However I was still unable to
view
client event logs from Server Mgmt Console. Rebooted W2K client and
Remote
Registry was set back to Disabled. Is there a checkbox similar to XP to
"Allow users remote acess..." with W2K Professional? I have looked
everywhere
and found nothing.
I cannot get Remote Registry Service to stay started. Any other
suggestions?
Thanks,
Catherine

Am not able to access a Windows 2000 client workstation from Server Mgmt
Console to view event log. Message is "Unable to connect... The network
path
was not found.". Also, am not able to ping, or access via NET USE.
However
client is able to access the server with no problems. (Note: I was
certainly
able to access this client in early January.)
Any firewall software installed on the client (eg ZoneAlarm, Kerio, etc.)
or any "internet security" package like Norton installed?
After that, I'd check that File and Print Sharing is ticked in the
network
connection properties on the client, since that affects whether any
remote
access to its' files is possible.
Remote management also requires the "Remote Registry" and "Server"
services to be running on the client.
