Hi Robert,
Eactly what do you need to accomplish with your remote access (share files,
share databases, etc.) over dial-up phone links?
Is dial-up all you have available at your server for Internet access? I
have a feeling that this is going to be too slow for any serious business
activity.
1. Always use the built-in Wizards to set up SBS for Remote access (and a
bunch of other things). Doing ti manually will cause problems.
2. USB modems (whether analog 56k modems or DSL broadband modems) can be a
real pain. Only useexternal serial port 56k analog modems or Ethernet
broadband devices.

Hi there,
I need help on a dial-up problem. We've started a small business and
we've
bought a server which will be our only server (mail, web, remote, etc.).
I've installed SBS2003 on the server and configured everything on the
server.
Now I struggle with dial-up remote access which is critical seeing that
none
of our employees share an office.
What I have is the following:
1. Configured Routing & Remote services (as best I could, seeing that I'm
new to server administration).
2. I'n installed an external USB modem (SmartLink) onto the server in one
of
the USB ports (I haven't yet bought the modem, but this is a modem I had
to
test).
3. I've configured the client notebook with the
//server-name/ConnectComputer URL and this created an icon on the desktop,
which I can dial-in with.\
The problems:
1. When I dial with the client (or from any phone), only the first time
the
modem answers the phone. I have to remove the USB and re-plug to allow
for
another answer (and this also sometimes do not work).
2. When eventually the modem answers, nothing happens and I cannot get
connected to the server.
Can someone please help me here. Is it the setup on the server? The
modem
maybe? The setup on the client?
