Re: Win2k VPN Client can't connect. Winxp client can.

Looks like the Win2K remote workstation is behind a router (10.10.220.16)
that's handling DHCP service for the remote network. What make/model router
is it?

I am not sure why there are so many dns entries. Its a question I have been
meaning to ask myself. I have not worked here very log and just haven't had
the time to ask about it. TCP/IP is the only protocol. Its a wired
connection. The other laptop that also has win2k does not have a bunch of
dns entries. Just one or 2. Its hard to believe that nobody has seen this
before. The SBS server I installed was basically a standard install.

May not be relevant, but why so many DNS servers on the Win2K NIC?

10.10.220.16
192.168.1.13
10.10.220.17
67.104.94.19
192.168.1.14

Is the Win2K workstation using a wireless connection? If so, what
happens if you use a wired connection?

What other protocols are installed on the Win2K workstation besides
TCP/IP? Uninstall all except TCP/IP and/or make sure TCP/IP is at the top
of the binding order list (not something like NetBEUI).

Can you post the output of an ipconfig /all for the SBS 2003
server and the Win2K remote workstation.

I have just created another SBS Server 2003 in my office and gave it a
internet address. When I try and connect to it I get the same problem.
Win2k can not connect using VPN but XP can.

vice versa. The SBS 2003 server is the host. From my office I have
several computers. All XP clients can connect and login. The win2k
stations can not.
I receive the event message on the Server that references the GRE
packets. But only get that error when I try and connect with win2k.

Have you tried rebooting the server? There be dragons in here. I once
saw an SBS server in a state where neither XP Home nor Pro could
connect
by VPN but Win98SE and Linux could. I tried several times with each
client, with exactly consistent results. Literally the day before, XP
had connected without trouble. Out of curiosity I fired up an old W2K
Server installation and tried that. It failed, but with a different
error, and then worked at the second attempt. After that, XP was OK.
I've never found any other case of something like that, until now?
Oh,
during that incident, the SBS was rebooted but without effect. Still,
the Big Red Switch is always worth a try when logic fails.
