RE: SBS 2003 periodically keeps losing default gateway

Hi there, the gateway is set manually. I think I have now fixed it though. It
looks like there were remains of the Internet wizard setup left in RRAS as
there were 2 dial up connections in there. After watching it I noticed one of
the connection said "connecting" and then noticed that gateway disappeared.
After removing these connections from within RRAS, I've been able to ping a
website constantly for over an hour and half now, which it has never done
since this problem started.
If it does start to play up again I will let you know.
Thanks again, Arron.

Hi Arron,.
To narrow down the problem, would you please help me confirm if the default
gateway of SBS is set automatically or manually?
Thanks for your time and I look forward to hearing from you.

| Thanks for your reply. My sbs server only has 1 nic installed and is
| configured with an internal ip address and the gateway is set to the lan
| address of the adsl router. After much messing around it appears to be a
| problem with the routing table but I'm not that clued up on routing
tables.
|
| If I do a route print command when the connection goes down I get this
odd
| entry
|
| http://www.smokes.dsl.pipex.com/ping1.jpg
|
| Notice the ffffffff entry under the interface with no gateway ip. I then
do
| a route delete command to bin that entry and guess what happens???
|
| http://www.smokes.dsl.pipex.com/ping2.jpg
|
| The correct entry for the gateway and interface automatically gets
created
| and the internet works fine until it happens again.
|
| Any ideas as I'm stumped. It has all the lastest 2003 server, sbs 2003
and
| exchange service packs installed. When it was originally installed I used
the
| internet and email connection wizard as it was using an ISDN terminal
adapter
| to connect to the net but now its using an adsl router, and is
reconfigured
| to use that. Could some setting be refreshing in the background to cause
this
| issue?
|
| Thanks for any help.
