Hi Anna,
First let me say I have resolve my issues. To clarify what I meant by I can
input "static" 192.168.16.xx (my internal network IP)
and no problem" is to say all works well when using a static IP. So the
problem resides with DHCP. My issues were that I also use ISA 2004 and that
was blocking requests to the DHCP server. So I had to create a rule to allow
nternal DHCP request to pass. My only concern here is why I had to do that
when all was working fine since I upgraded to ISA 2004. Thanks for the
suggestions and input. Always appreciated.

Hi Allen:
Not sure what you mean by "can input "static" 192.168.16.xx (my internal
network IP) and no problem".
You would seem to still have a problem if you cannot access resources on
the
SBS server.
From one of the workstations that does not work, can you ping the IP
address
of the SBS server, usually 192.168.16.2 in this scheme
If this does not work, (and you have no software to disable ping), nothing
will work.
Since you have tried a different hub/port, have you tried
1. A different patch cord from the patch panel to the switch/hub?
2. A different patch cord from the computer to the wall?
3. A different data jack?
Is there a software firewall installed that might be blocking all network
addresses?
In Device Manager does the network adapter appear to be working properly?
Since you said ipconfig gives you some response, I will assume that the
NIC
is not "disabled"
If you can access some resources but not others, is the ISA client
enalbled
(assuming SBS Premium)
Above is basic network troubleshooting, but it happens a lot. I have one
location where the rats just love to get in the attic and eat the cat5
cable. There is somthing about that cable that they just can't seem to
resist.
Give us additional information and we may be able to assist further.

All of a sudden out of nowhere I'm having problems with some clients notis
being able to obtain an DHCP lease from the server. At first I had
thought
that maybe it was a hub issue as I do have two of them and clients are
plugged into either or. But I reloved that by taking a bad client and
switching hubs with same results. I only have 1 DHCP server on my
network.
When I go to the bad clients workstations and do an ipconfig /all here's
what is returned.cannot
I get IP's that are on a 169.254.xx.xx network with a subnet mask of
255.255.0.0. I cannot do an ipconfig /release and obviously cannot do a
renew. I've tried restarting the DHCP client service on the workstations.
Does not help. I can input "static" 192.168.16.xx (my internal network
IP)
and no problem. However it appears that when I do this those clients
access http://companyweb. Help!!!
