Are you mirroring at a hardware level or via Disk Management?

I have an environment with SBS2003 and 2 SATA drives mirrored.
Everything was synced and fine until the other day where the 2nd HDD
reported bad sector errors.
I broke the mirror DISCONNECTED the 2nd drive and tried to start the
system from the 1st hdd. The system was trying to start, the Windows
logo would come up and 3-4 secs later the system just rebooted.
CONNECTED back the 2nd drive and the system would start. Removed the
volume from the 2nd drive, disconnected the second drive and the system
kept rebooting. Connected again the second drive and system worked.
So I decided to replace the 2nd drive with another drive of the same
specs put unfortunately the system reboots and I can not start it.
What is the easiest way to boot the system and rebuild mirror1 with the
new drive?
Appreciate your help.
