Hi,
Thanks for using the SBS newsgroup.
From your description, I understand that the hard disk is corrupt and youwant to restore the AD information and email mailboxes. If I am off base,
please don't hesitate to let me know.
I. Do you have a fine backup of the server before the hard disk down? If
yes, you can restore the AD information from it. the AD information must be
restored from the System Status.
For detail steps to restore System status, you can refer to the following
article:
Backing Up and Restoring Windows Small Business Server 2003
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=49916

I am beginning w/ a SBS2003 SP1 system w/ a corrupted disk-can't get a
complete backup because of errors reading files. That's behind me, pulled
out another disk and have installed a fresh copy and almost done w/ SP1
loaded and updated w/ security patches.
question: how can I retrieve/carry over exchange data and possibly the AD
structure w/ users/computers/printers to the new system? when running
ntbackup, I have created a backup of the first storage group for exchange
individually. while trying to backup the system state (is this how the AD
exports?) errors abound-some reasons have to do with COM+ objects. Can
AD be exported in some other fashion? If I restore exchange on the newbe
server from the backup-does it need the users in place first? will there
problems recreating the users (different SID's) when exchange imports? INrestoring
order to restore exchange, is it as simple as running ntbackup and
the exchange backup?
any help would be greatly appreciated. thank you.
