RE: Moving Priv1.edb problems

You're very welcome! I believe that the rule of thumb is about 3 GB per hour
on the relocation (and offline defrag).

Best of luck!

Hi Allen.

You were quite right it was Microsofts way of seeing who has
patience :-)

I just left it running for about 45mins and sure enough, the edb and smt
files
transfered over.

Thanks once again for you help in my hour of need ;)

Thanks Allen for your reply..

I have deleted the moved priv1.edb and am now attempting to move it once
more. I will leave it a good while and not worry about the not responding as
you suggest. The database is about 3.5Gb, so i wonder how long this should
take ?

Trust MS :-)

Oh i stopping the exchange info store service this time as well.

Failing the above i will try what u suggest about compairing time stamps and
will report back.

Thanks once again m8ty

How long did you allow for the move of priv1.edb? (I recommend you give it
a LONG time and don't worry about the "not responding" state.)

After the move, have you tried to rename the file in the original location
(C:\program files\exchsrvr\mdbdata\priv1.mdb) to another name (priv1.bad)
then try to mount the database? If so, could you mount the database?
Another way to check this without renaming the original is to mount the
database, dismount the database, and compare timestamps on the .mdb and .stm
files. Which ones are the same? If the original (on C:) is updated and the
.stm file on the other drive is the same, you have a problem.

One other question, have you tried to defragment the datastore using ESEUTIL
/d?

Just a few thoughts from the peanut gallery.

Good Luck!

Hello Folks,

Having a bit of a problem atm.

Not much room left on my C drive so decided to move my Exchange priv1.edb
and priv1.stm files over to D:, as per the Microsoft guide 821915.

The stm files moves without problem, but the priv1.edb just times out and
shows in task manager as not responding. When i check the location i have
moved it to, it shows there, but also still shows in it's original location
eg C:\Program files\Exchangesvr\MBData.

I can remount the data base.

Can anyone explain the possible problem?

Many thanks, sorry if i haven't explained it to well :)
