Re: SBS 2003 Fax Sharepoint Routing

Hi Julius,

Thanks for your update.

This issue can occur if you installed the fax service from Add/Remove
Windows Components without through the SBS 2003 Integrated Setup. We will
need to reinstall the Fax Services component:

- If the Fax Services component was original installed from Add/Remove
Windows Components, you should first uninstall it from Add/Remove Windows
Components and then go to Add or Remove Programs, select Windows Small
Business Server 2003 and click "Change/Remove", once you reach the
component selection screen, select the Install action for the Fax Services
component. Complete the wizard.

- If the Fax Services component was original installed by using the SBS
2003 Integrated Setup, we can also remove and reinstall it to re-fresh the
Fax Services component. From Add or Remove Programs, select Windows Small
Business Server 2003 and click "Change/Remove", once you reach the
component selection screen, select the remove action for the Fax Services
component. Complete the wizard. Re-run the same steps but this time select
Install fro the Fax Server component.

The integrated setup should register the proper DLL that is needed to get
this functionality going.

For your convenience, you can refer to the following steps to reinstall the
shared fax services:

Note: please backup the whole registry list first in case any unexpected.

A. Rename the keys and files below to *.old

1) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Fax
2) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Fax
3) C:\Program Files\Microsoft Windows Small Business Server\fax
4) The ''SBSMIS-FAX.log'' file under ''C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Integration\Windows Small Business Server 2003\Logs''.
5) The ''SBSMSI-faxcfg.log'' file under ''C:\Program
Files\Microsoft Integration\Windows Small Business Server 2003\Logs''.
6) The ''faxsetup.log'' file under ''C:\WINDOWS\''.

B. Delete the following registry keys:

HKLM/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Telephony/Country List
HKLM/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Telephony/Locations registry
Keys

C. Access Add/Remove Programs, Add/Remove Windows Components,
uncheck ''Fax Services'' to uninstall it.

D. Once it is uninstalled, access Add/Remove Programs to
reinstall it.

E. Then, access ''Add/Remove Programs again'', this time, we
will click ''Change/Remove'' on the ''Windows Small Business Server 2003''
item:

1) Click ''Next'' on the ''Microsoft Windows Small Business Server
Setup'' page.
2) Click ''Next'' on the ''Windows Configuration'' page.

Note: It states that ''This will take approximately 30 minutes'', it is
referring to the total time it will take in the first SBS component
installation. For the task such as remove a specific component, it will
just take couple of minutes.
3) Now, in the ''Component Selection'' page, choose ''Remove''
before the ''Fax Services'' item.
4) Click ''Next'', and then click ''Next'' again to confirm
''Component Summary''. You will be prompted to insert the SBS 2K3 setup
Disc 1.

F. Once the removal process is completed, access ''Windows Small Business
Server setup'' again in ''Add/Remove Programs'', proceed to the ''Component
Selection'' page, and then choose ''Install'' for the ''Fax Services'' item
to reinstall fax service.

And then we should push the shared fax client application from server to
client workstations by Deploy Client Application. When users logon
workstations again, the Shared Fax Client application will be setup
automatically. You can not setup share fax in client side. The detail steps
to install share fax client:

1). Start server management console, locate Client Computers node, click
Set Up Client Applications link to start Set Up Client Applications Wizard.
2). In Available Applications page ensure the Shared fax client (Outlook
2003) is listed and then follow the steps to deploy the application.
3). When users logon to domain from client computers next time, these
client applications will be installed.

Then please check if every thing is ok now.

If the issue persists, please check if you are missing the following
registry key. You can get the key from another working SBS server and then
restart the FAX service.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Fax\Routing Extensions\SBSFAX~1.DLL]

"FriendlyName"="Store in a document library"

If you do not have another working SBS 2003 server, you can create a new
txt file, ie, key.txt, rename the file to key.reg, open the file in
Notepad, copy and paste the content between "START" and "END" in to the
file, save it and double click on the key.reg file to import the key. Then
open the Server Management Console, right click "Fax (Local)" and choose
Stop, then right click on it and choose Start to start it. Check if
everything is OK.

NOTE: After you import the key, open Registry Editor (regedit) and confirm
the 8.3 path displayed for ImageName is correct, confirm that a file named
SBSFAXROUTEEXT.DLL (long name) exists on that path. Here it is
"C:\PROGRA~1\MICROS~2\CLIENT~1\FAXROU~1\SBSFAX~1.DLL".

Then please test the issue again, what is the result?

I appreciate your time!

Have a nice day!

Sincerely,

Jenny,

The dll was registered successfully as instructed in step 1.

Also, the permissions checked out to be correct for the seonc file
stated in step number 2.

These steps did not fix the proble as the document library option is
still not available.

Here is the contents of the log file you requested:

I did not notice any erroneous events in the event vwr that relate to
the fax service or sharepoint.

Do you need anything else?

I really appreciate your assistance.

Thanks,
Julius
