What is the configuration of the 2 NICs on the server? What configuration is
used on the modem and what kind of modem is it? You need to give us more
detail.

Hello all,
We have an SBS2003 (standard) server, a DSL modem which does NAT, and a
switch. Currently the modem connects to the switch and is the DHCP server.
We want to change this so that internet traffic goes via the server so we
can monitor. We added a second NIC to the server and got separate subnets
working for the modem and the LAN. (10.1.1.x modem, 192.168.1.x lan).
How do we route between them?
It seems that the recommended way is to use NAT in SBS to translate the
LAN subnet to the modem subnet. But this then there would be two devices
doing NAT, and I've read that this is not a great idea - and it seems
untidy to me.
We tried to set up plain static routing so that traffic passes between the
cards, but we can't get anything back from the modem. My guess is that
this is because the modem is not going to know how to route the packets
from the LAN subnet - its a simple device which we can't set up any custom
routing on.
Any other suggestions or comments?
Thanks in advance.
Aaron
