Re: SBS4.5 to Active Directoy 2003

You cannot promote BDC to PDC and expect SBS4.5 to stay happy :-)
After controllers are synchronised you can disconnect BDC from LAN, put it
on separate switch and promote it to PDC. You will have to upgrade it to
w2ks before going to w2k3 domain (there is no direct path from NT4 to w2ks).

SwingIT have your desired scenario well documented, but you have to read it
to understand procedure. We can discus the subject for days and still have
some parts of migration not covered. Jeff is charging peanuts for such well
written document and throws in support on top of that :-).

Hi SuperGumby,
I already know SBS4.5 andSBS 2003 very well.
I would migrate SBS4.5 to legacy Active Directory because the customer
plain to merge in another organization, so the customer need a network
servers more scalable, more flexible and more standard than SBS versions.

anyway..... Can I promote a Windows NT 4.0 from BDC to PDC joined in the
same domain of my SBS4.5?

thanks

BTW Luk, though SwingIT is primarily designed to cover SBS->SBS migration
Jeff fully supports SBS->nonSBS (I believe).

In fact, the process is really Windows Domain (AD or legacy) -> AD. (I
don't _think_ Jeff would be interested in going to a legacy domain)

May I ask why you are leaving SBS space? Have you outgrown SBS despite
increases in user numbers and Exchange size? Do you really want to lose
all our cool toys? Have you seen the vast improvements and additional
facilities offered by SBS2003 in comparison to 4.5?
