Re: ShapePoint database upgraded to SQL Server 2K - change sa password?

Hello Andrew,

Thank you for posting back!

I am sorry for the delayed response due to the weekend. Please understand
that the newsgroups are staffed weekdays by Microsoft Support professionals
to answer your systems and applications questions. Your understanding is
greatly appreciated!

From your reply, I understand you have completed the upgrade. Your question
is if changing the SA password will break the SharePoint. If I have
misunderstood your concern, please let me know.

No, it will not break. SharePoint uses Windows Authentication, thus, change
SA password will not break SharePoint.

If you have any further questions or concern, please feel free to let me
know. I am looking forward to hearing from you!

Best regards,

Brandy Nee

Brandy, I don't know how to word this any differently but you are
not getting the point of my post. The upgrade has been completed
(SharePoint on MSDE to SharePoint on SQL Server 2000). This has been
done. Completed. Smoothly as described by your test. I understand that
there is no prompt to change the SA password during the upgrade. Please
read this post carefully to understand my question. It is a standard
best practice to change the SA password on SQL Server to a complex
password so others cannot access the database server and databases
easily. Now, if I simply wanted to change the SA password, then I
agree, this would be a post for the SQL Server newsgroup. However, this
is not the concern - I know how to change the SA password. My question
is - if I change the SA password, is that going to cause SharePoint to
break? If Sharepoint is using the SA account/password to access the
SharePoint database and I change the password to one that SharePoint
does not know, then SharePoint may stop working. Since I cannot tell
what, if any, the current password is, I can't simply write it down,
change it, and see what happens, as I won't be abe to change it back to
its original value. So again, if I change the SA password for the
SharePoint instance of SQL Server - will this break anything, or is
this ok to do without consequence (other than making the server more
secure)?
