OK, I will wait you.

To the SBS backup issue, please double check you have granted the "SBS

Hi Jenny,

Have not had a chance to tackle the problem properly yet. Will be looking
into it on the 27th when I have a bit more free time.

What I have found is that the automatic backups whether NT backup or sbs
backup do not work. When I run a manual NT backup it does work, when I
run a
manual sbs backup it does not.

I gave the sbs user administrator rights on the domain to see if that
would
change anything and it did not.

So I am still at the point where I am doing a manual backup every evening
for this company.

It's a pain, but until I get this resolved there is nothing else I can
do.

If I cannot resolve this issue I will plug the Nas lacie mini into a Usb
port on the server and see if that makes any difference.

My thoughts are that the Lacie NAS mini does not work within a domain
properly as I cannot add domain users to it.

I have contacted Lacie but they have been very little help.

Thank you for your continued interest

Kindest Regards

Woody Lenton

Hi Woody,

Thanks for your information.

When we launch the SBS backup wizard to backup, the backup process is
running under the SBS Backup User account, so please ensure the SBS
Backup
User account has appropriate permissions on the network drive (Lacie
Network mini drive). And then try to test again to see if the issue be
fixed.

And based on my experience, I have seen some issues that the backup
runner
of SBS 2k3 have compatible problem with network storage device.
Regarding
this issue, I suggest you to make sure that the NAS device is in the
Windows 2003 hardware compatible list. You could check the HCL list in
the
following links

http://www.windows.com/hcl

And also please perform the following test to se if it helps.

I. Please use the NTbackup with sbs backup script file to backup your
server and test the result.

a.) Click Start, click Run, type ntbackup, and then press Enter. The
Backup
or Restore Wizard launches.
b.) On the Welcome to the Backup or Restore Wizard page, click Advanced
Mode.
c.) Click the Backup tab. From the Job menu, choose Load Selections.
d.) In the File Name box type %sbsprogramdir%\backup.
e.) Click Small Business Backup Script.bks to select, and click Open.
On
the Backup tab, click Start Backup.
f.) Can the problem be reproduced?

II. Could you try to schedule a backup with SBS backup wizard to the
local
hardware? Could this issue be reproduced?

III. What is the accurate error massage when you failed backup with SBS
backup wizard? Could you catch a screen shot for me when reproduced the
issue?

To make a screen shot:
A. When reproduced issue, Press Alt + Pr Scrn to capture a screen shot.
B. From Start, go to Run, enter pbrush in the Open box, and then click
OK.
C. Use Ctrl + V to paste the screen shot to the canvas.
D. From the File menu, go to Save and save as a JPG file.

IV. Please gather the latest NTbackup, SBS Backuprunner logs and
Application log, compress them to a ZIP file, and then send it to us
for
analysis.

I appreciate your time! I am happy to be assistance of you!

Merry Christmas!

Hi Jenny,

Thank you for getting back to me.

I am having problems with a Lacie Network mini drive. It is a Linux
based
device and I am unsure as to why I cannot back up to it.

It appears in the MY RHP workgroup/domain and I can see and acess the
share
through my network places. However when I back up to it, it fails. When
doing a manual backup through NT backup it is ok.

It has it's own set of users, I cannot add any domain users to it in the
form of rhp/Administrator as it will not accept foward slashes.

I have also tried to map a network drive to it and that works
perfectly....but I cannot back up to a network drive through sbs backup.

I am pretty stuck.

here is all the information you requested.

I cannot find the sbs backup logs you mentioned. but here are the
reports
from 1. the nt backup and 2. the sbs backup and a screen shot.

KR

Woody Lenton
