Re: Fax Console can't open the faxes.

Hi Crina,

finally i got some time to test this out.
Has i tought the problem was bad reported, and has is related in some way to the Windows XP itself. Has i can see all the received faxes, i can save them to the local disk and open them using Microsoft Picture and Fax viewer. But if i try to view them directly inside the fax console it just don't do anything, doesn't matter if i do a double click over a fax or if i choose view fax on the right click popup.
This happens in all the fax folders.

Regards,
Fernando

Hi Fernando,

Thank you for posting in SBS newsgroup.

From the description, I understand the issue to be: you can not view the received or sent faxes on fax console on some client computers in your SBS LAN. If I have misunderstood your concerns, please do not hesitate to let me know.

AS I know, any user should be able to view their sent faxes in the Fax Console. Any user who has permission is able to see all faxes in Inbox in the Fax Console. The incoming faxes get screened by a "fax operator" and forwarded via Outlook, or printed, or sent to a folder. Usually you have to add that user to the Fax Operators group so they can manage via the Fax Console.

The default fax permission for SBS server is listed as following:

1. Open Server management
2. Right click Fax(Local) and click properties
3. In the security tab, you would see the following default permission.

Administrators: Allow - Fax, Manage Fax Configuration, Manage Fax Document
Special Permissions - Allow - All allow

SBS Fax Operators: Allow - Fax, Manage Fax Document
Special Permissions - Allow - Submit Low Priority Fax, Submit Normal Priority Fax, Submit High Priority Fax, View Fax Jobs, Manage Fax Jobs, View Incoming Message Archive, Manage Incoming Message Archive, View Outgoing Message Archive, Manage Outgoing Message Archive, Everyone: Allow - Fax
Special Permissions - Allow - Submit Low Priority Fax, Submit Normal Priority Fax, Read Permission.

You could configure above permission for users for dedicated purpose.

In addition, on SBS 2003 you can choose one or more methods to route inbound faxes. These routing methods are as follows:

- Route through e-mail. Routes the fax to a single e-mail address on or outside the local network.

- Store in a folder. Routes the fax to a shared file system folder.

- Print. Routes the fax to an installed print device.

- Store in a document library. Routes the fax to a document library on your company's internal Web site.

For detailed information, you may also refer to the following KB article:

Hope it helps.

I am appreciated your time and look forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,

| | in a 2003 SBS Premium network, where the Fax Service is implemented i | have some clients that can't view the received or sent faxes.
| If in the windows XP fax console we dbl click on top of a received fax, | and it doesn't do nothing. No error message, nothing at all.
| The only possibility to view a fax is to save it to the local disk and | them open it like any normal .tif file.
| Regarding permissions, i think nothing is wrong, has the user can save | the faxes and can see the full list of them.
| And has i don't get any error message or alert, not in fax console or in | the windows XP events, i don't have a clue of what this can be.
| Any suggestions are welcome.
