Re: 2xSBS2003, 2x Domains, connection lost ...??

Hi Kevin,

Without knowing much more info I am having difficulty advising. Initially
you have to advise that you have not broken the EULA by mapping a drive
between the two SBS which is borderline for a TRUST relationship which is
forbidden in the EULA.

You would need to confirm:-

Domain names are different, Email domains are different, relating to 2
seperate companys.
IP ranges of both LANs including subnet.
Users from company1 do not access files on company2 server (but you
transferring from one server to another to accomadate this is very grey
area) This includes the administrator but then you are as you are
transferring files.... this breaks EULA...

Its getting very messy..... I am trying to help but digging a hole for
myself... Suggest you contact PSS..... sorry

There are no IP conflicts, DHCP is carefully controlled externally.
- so my event viewers are clean!

there are 2 for historical reasons, but I was only recently able to
connect
them together - about 2 weeks ago. All worked fine, - both domains were
listed, and with the correct login permissions i got straight in. Then
today
it disappeared!

Hi Kevin

Your present scenario is what I would expect. Having 2 SBS being able to
map
a drive must be similar in some IP configuration and surprised one hasn't
shut down when it finds the other.

How long has this scenario been running like this ? What are your event
viewers saying i.e dhcp server on one shutting down.

Finally why is there 2 ?

I have 2 SBS2003 installations, each controlling a different domain.
each has 2 nic's with a private & public IP addr on each.

I was able to shuffle files from one server to the other (using a drive
mapping), but now I can't!
Neither machine appears to see the others domain under 'Microsoft
Windows
Network'
-They did yesterday, prior to a reboot.

Any ideas? - the hardware is sound (i can ping), and I can even connect
to
OWA on one using IE on the other, but nothing using windows explorer

Thanks in advance

Kevin
