Re: all incoming mail is being blocked

I think you missed his point.

He said that "My ISP is BT (British Telecom) and **SORBS accidently put
their entire range** of static IP addresses on the dynamic list." His ISP is
not at fault, it is SORBS who accidentally listed the ISP's static range as
dynamic, then is taking forever to remove the listings.

As to your theory that dynamic addresses should not be sending mail
directly, I disagree. I have Road Runner Business Class cable modem with
five dynamic IP addresses. I also have RDNS for my mail server. A properly
secured and properly used mail server should not require a static address
just because SOME worthless bastiges use dynamic IPs for spam.

SORBS, like may other RBL organizations, maintains a database which can
be queried via DNS. Mail server admins use these DNS databases as
evaluation criteria for acceptance of an SMTP connection or filtering
of messages.

SORBS does not block anything. The mail server administrator has
created a rule to query the SORBS database via DNS, then accept or
reject the sender.

Gregg's suggestion to "sue the idiots" should be directed at your ISP
-- British Telecom. The major ISP voluntarily publish their pools of
dynamic IPs and dial-up IPs. This is to help in spam filtering.
Computers in these pools should not be sending mail direct.

Blame the ISP. By listing your static IP as dynamic, they told the
world that your mail should be treated like spam.

Alan
