Hello James,
Sorry to keep you waiting!
I have performed several tests and I notice the same issue. I have
discussed with colleagues. Our conclusion is the NTBackup.exe performs an
online backup for those open files (e.g. Event Viewer) to the system state,
so actually the event logs have been backed up in System State other than
individual files.
Hope it helps. If you have any further questions or concerns on this issue,
please feel free to let me know. I am glad to be of assistance!
Best regards,
Brandy Nee

Brandy,
Once again thanks very much for your help. I have just one further
question. We use NTBackup, I went to Monday's tape to see if I could
restore the event log file from then but found that NTBackup excludes
the event log files from the backup. Why is this and is it something
that I can change?
Kind regards
James H-B
