Hi there, i just bought my first server, for the past 8 years ive always used
managed hosting for my domains, but now that i have about 15 domains i
thought id get my own server. i need some help.
First of all i made the mistake of trying to get my server up and running at
home, SBS automatically picked up a lot of settings from my house router, i
needed to isntall SQL 05 before i sent it to the datahouse ISP. and it
created some sort of domain.local? what the hell is that?
So a few days ago i sent my server to the datahouse, they configured the IP
on the server so that i can remote access it.
I got in and tried a internet + email config, it had my old routers DNS info
and router ip, at that time the server could access websites, after i removed
the incorrect DNS info, it no longer access the www, but i can still remote
to it??? anyway, i have all the MX and A records setup mail.domain.com and
the fun stuff, and i created 1 account on the server for one of the domains,
also when i look at it it says username and the domain logon it says @domain.
local ? does that make a difference to accessing it via pop?
so let me start with my first question, in the internet + email wizard, do i
have to provide a DNS entry? i tried my server IP address, but the wizard
says that it cant be same as the servers network ip... Also, it says
something about using roots or something., anyway i have a lot of questions
and im rambling, if it makes sense to anyone, please help!!!
.
