RE: An inconsistency was encountered on the requested media

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Dear Customer,

Thank you for posting back!

Yes, you are right! I am sorry that I did not find this tape drive in HCL.

Based on my experience, Event ID 8017 is a common event for backup failure.
Also, the hotfix in KB 828402 has already been included in the Windows
Server 2003 SP1. You can refer to the NTbackup.exe file version in the KB
828402 to compare with the NTBackup.exe on your SBS Server.

By the way, May I confirm with you whether you can manually run NTBackup to
your local drive, please? This is very important information for us to
isolate your issue.

If you cannot run manually run the NTBackup to local drive, please help to
gather following log files for further research. You can zip these files
and send them as attachments to my mailbox: v-branee@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

a. Event Log: On the server, run "eventvwr" (without quotation marks),
check whether there are any errors. If yes, double click it, click the Copy
button and paste the full content to the Newsgroup.

b. The Backupxx.log files in the folder 'C:\Documents and Settings\SBS
Backup User\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows
NT\NTBackup\data'.

c. The Sbsbackuplog0x.log files which can be located under the folder
'%sbsprogramdir%\Support\Backup Logs'.

Please take your time to perform the steps and gather the information for
research. I am looking forward to hearing from you!

Best regards,

Brandy Nee
