RE: Internet Connection Wizard failing at Firewall Config and Secure W

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Hi Gyro,

Thank you for posting in SBS newsgroup.

From the description, I understand you encountered errors on Firewall
Configuration and Secure Web Site Configuration when you run CEICW. If I
have misunderstood your concerns, please do not hesitate to let me know.

Please firstly double check if you have configured SBS as following:

1. Leave the Default Gateway of the internal NIC blank.
2. Configure both the internal NIC and the external NIC to use the internal
DNS Service as the DNS Server.
3. On the DNS Server, create the DNS Forwarder to forward the external DNS
resolution requests to the ISP's DNS server. See:

323380 How to configure DNS for Internet access in Windows Server 2003
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=323380

4. Strictly followed the instructions in the KB article below to run CEICW:

825763 How to configure Internet access in Windows Small Business Server
2003
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=825763

Then please try the following steps:

1. If your SBS server is HP/Compaq and you have HP Smart Start or some
other third-party network manage software installed, please uninstall them
and restart the SBS server, run CEICW again to see if there is any change.
2. you may check out the following Knowledge Base article and see if it
helps:

875421 "An error occurred while configuring a component" error message when
you run the Configure E-mail and Internet Connection Wizard in Windows
Small Business Server 2003
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=875421

3. Do a clean boot to see how thing goes:

1) Click Start, click Run, and then in the Open box, type "MSCONFIG"
(without the quotation marks). Click OK.
2) In the System Configuration Utility (MSConfig) window, click to select
the Selective Startup button.
3) Click to clear the check mark from the "Load startup items" below
Selective Startup.
4) Click the Services tab, click to check the "Hide All Microsoft
Services" box, and remove all the check marks from the remained
Non-Microsoft Services. Please note that the Exchange services could be
marked as non-Microsoft. Please do not disable those services.
5) Click OK to close the MSConfig window. Click Yes when you are asked to
restart your computer in order to enable the changes.
6) After restarting, please check whether this issue will reoccur.

4. There is a known issue with the ICW when ISA is installed. If you don't
choose to change the network settings the Secure Web Services Configuration
will fail.? This only happens on systems when all these conditions are true:

1) ISA is installed.
2) The External NIC is obtaining its IP address automatically.

To resolve the issue always choose the correct connection type on the
"Connection Type" page when running the ICW. No settings need to be
changed, but the option has to be enabled. Complete the wizard and click
Finish.?The Secure Web Configuration will complete successfully.

5.Check if the PUBLISHING record in DNS is an A record. To do so:

1) Open the DNS Management console.
2) Expand the forward lookup zone and the proper AD zone.
3) Take a note of the CNAME entry for PUBLISHING, find out where is it
pointing to and then find out what IP is that A record using (usually the
server's internal IP).
4) Remove the CNAME (ALIAS) entry for PUBLISHING.
5) Create a new A (HOST) record on the same forward lookup zone called
PUBLISHING, set it to point to the server's internal IP.

The Error 0x1 returned from call to RegisterMSBOExchangeBP() error may
caused by:

1. The secatts.dll file may be missing.
2. The secatts.dll file may be damaged.
3. The secatts.dll file may be unregistered.

Please follow these steps to solve the issue:

1. Restore the secatts.dll file from the SBS2003 CD to the following path:

c:\program files\Microsoft Windows Small Business Server\Networking

2. Click Start and Click Run.
3. Type cmd and click OK.
4. Naviagte to the following path:? c:\program files\Microsoft Windows
Small Business Server\Networking
5. Type the following command: regsvr32 secatts.dll
6. Try re-run CEICW.

If the problem still persists, please help me collect the following
information:

1. Do you have ISA installed on SBS?
2. How many network cards on SBS? Can you describe your detailed network
diagram for troubleshooting?
3. Post ipconfig/all result on SBS and client computer.
4. Have you typed the public FQDN of the SBS server on the Web Server
Certificate page when you run CEICW?
5.Please attach the file "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Windows Small Business
Server\Support\icwlog.txt".

I am appreciated your time and look forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,

Crina Li (MSFT)
