RE: Disk space needed

Do at least a 20G system partition. I made the mistake of 12G and am out of
space. The more space you have will allow you to take more advantage of
shadow copies.

Dear customer,

Thank you for posting to the SBS Newsgroup.

I understand that you want to upgrade from Windows 2000 Server to SBS 2K3
SP1, so you want to know how much free disk needed on your machine. If I
have misunderstood your concern, please let me know.

Thanks a lot for Dave's greatly information sharing!

Yes, Dave has pointed the right document. Please read Appendix A Additional
Information - Using Disk Space in the following document.

Getting Started: Windows Small Business Server 2003 with SP1

The files for setting up the operating system require approximately 1.5
gigabyte (GB) to 2 GB. It is recommended that you allow considerably more
disk space than the minimum amount. It is not unreasonable to allow 4 GB to
6 GB on drive or partition where the operating system is installed. This
allows space for a variety of items, including adding additional
components, future service packs, and the paging file used by the operating
system. You then need an additional space for the server applications that
you plan to install.

So we suggest that reserve about 4GB hard drive space for SP1 Setup (add
500 MB if installing SQL). The detailed information is listed as following:

Extract Windows Server 2003 SP1 files (any volume) = ~1GB
Archive Windows Server 2003 SP1 uninstall information (any volume) = ~1GB

Extract Exchange Server 2003 SP1 files = >400MB
Looks at TEMP Variable location by default - %USERPROFILE%\Local
Settings\Temp
You can run the setup directly from \Exchsrvr65_SP1\E3_SP1.exe and
choose a different location to extract files to.
Install Exchange Server 2003 SP1 = >202MB

Extract Windows XP SP2 for Client Deployment (any volume) = ~825MB
Install Windows XP SP2 for Client Deployment = ~350MB

Extract Windows Small Business Server 2003 SP1 = ~800MB
Install Small Business Server 2003 SP1 = ~500MB

Install ISA Server 2004 = 150MB (+ extra space for web cache)

Hope this information helps. if you have any further questions or concern,
please feel free to let me know. I am looking forward to hearing from you!

Best regards,

Brandy Nee

I presently have a Standard Windows 2000 Sp4 server with 4 GB of free disk
space. Is this enough disk space the upgrade the server to SBS 2003 SP1
and
still operate efficiently. I plan on Installing Exchange and any new
programs
to the d drive including the swap file.

Thanks,

- J
